These tulips are from my garden, the blossoms of which are approximately 4 inches high. Image taken April 23, 2008, as is straight from the camera. The effect of the heavy contrast of light and dark is caused by the way the early morning sun cuts through the shadow.
Image taken with the Nikon D40x, using the Nikon 55-200mm VR lens. Exposure bias was -1.0, at 400 iso. Shutter speed was 1/2500, f/8.0.

Sandra, the tulips in my garden were positioned so uniquely … the morning sun would come in at the perfect slant so that if I were in the garden at just the right time, the blossom was in the light while the background was still dark … perfect conditions!!! Sooo lucky!!!

Tony … this one really is two different flowers … no PS tricks here (I haven’t figured out how to do that kind of thing yet, anyhow!!) Just lucky!!!
