I am so saddened as briefly today we went to a park and noticed a black crown night heron in a pine tree with a broken wing, freezing and terrified. This is day 2 now. As people tried photographing him knowing he’s injured, this only spooked him MORE so, and he tried to frantically jump/hop up the tree for safety. This tears at my insides.
It started freezing rain, and now snowing and I am at a loss as to what to do. I called the humane society and they don’t deal with wild birds. I called the wild bird care centre, they won’t come and get him. I am not physically able to try and catch him to help him.
Is there anyone in Ottawa who would be willing to try and help me save this bird? Or on your own? Any birders out there at all have any ideas how I can rescue this poor thing? I know he won’t make it past tomorrow if action isn’t taken right now.
