I spent the entirety of my youth and early adulthood believing that in order to feel complete and whole one needed a prince charming. Looking back I can forgive myself for being so eager, for not believing and loving myself enough. It wasn’t until I entered my thirties until the light bulb went off realizing that all I ever needed was myself, that it is within.
In order to feel loved and whole, one has to be able to give that to themselves. I am beyond grateful for this lesson. I have several friends now who I can see making the same mistakes I have made, going without, traveling across the country, spending all their time and money in hopes of ‘impressing’ a sexual partner.
If one is comfortable in their own skin and skillfully has learned how to love themselves, whatever is meant to be will be. It will come to you.
It took me a lifetime to fall in love with my independence and strengths. I wouldn’t give them up for the world, nor would I ever repeat a pattern from the past.

So beautiful Heather; even in your thirties – or do you feel you became more beautiful when you entered that age? That’s what I hope I’ll be like when I get there. Probably something only one can appreciate once they’ve learned wisdom or found true happiness – once they feel, as you say, complete and whole.

  • ♥ Thank you so much Mui-Ling! This portrait was from 2008, unfortunately I no longer look like this because of what lyme did to my body. Looking back through these older photos makes me realize I was beautiful (i hated myself back then….perhaps as young women we have low self opinions for quite some time) ? it wasn’t until I got ill until I recognized what I was blessed with and lost.

I don’t know; I don’t think it is merely about age, there are many old people who feel very low – even if they were once very strong people. I have realized, after going through a scary transformation once, that people can change any day – see the world different today than they did yesterday. But meanwhile, as I see the portrait you just posted from this year, you are still beautiful x
