Mr. Heron finally did it! He caught a grown up fish! He put on quite the show for me, showing me every step of how a heron hunts! First he sharpened his beak on his favourite rock ( i now why he loves that rock so much) then out for real fishing. He simply didn’t just catch a fish and swallow it, but he stabbed it, cleaned it, kept smushing it in his beak as if to clean the fish and drain it of it’s feces. He rinsed it about 3 or 4 times before he finally consumed it. The red on his beak is actually blood.
Not only is he beautiful, but he is wise and full of stealth♥
The bonus of all this patience and thousands of shots paid off as the fish is looking at the camera in his beak:) On mister heron would give me such a wonderful capture!
I never thought I would fall madly in love with a feathered friend in any way shape or form how I did with Momma Snowy Owl Goddess. I thank my lucky stars for the sweet souls who led me to Mr. Heron♥ He is the second feathered friend I feel a connection to and I am completely smitten by him and all that he does. I would love to spend the day with him, from morning to nightfall, documenting his habits, how much he eats, where he sleeps, etc.
Photography and birding are my drug, my high, my heart♥

That is quite a catch – the fish for him and the photo for you. That’s interesting to know that birds sharpen their beaks on rocks. And all he went through before eating it… guess even animals can be fussy after all… and I don’t know how you can watch all that ^^" ~

  • Thank you my dear Mui-Ling♥ i had no idea they sharpened their beaks!!! i could watch simply because i’m fascinated by Mr.Heron, and ache to learn all about him and his ways. Mind you, if it was anything other than a fish, no way could I watch:(

What a fascinating read Heather. I totally get how you could spend so much time being absorbed in watching him and feeling a connection. It’s what us live, really live, rather than just exist.
Beautiful capture too. Mr heron is one gorgeous bird xox

  • thank you sweet Maree♥♥♥
i am in love with him. But my visits are halted until Isis gets better.
when i was looking for him to photograph, i ran into 2 lovely people, an older couple in this park, they were from Australia, the sweetest people EVER! They had never heard of a heron before and said no Canadian Geese ever came there. I love that they were enjoying all the lovely birds here:)
