Spent some time at the Milwaukee Zoo with my dad (Tim Denny) and fellow RB’er Jeff Weymier this past Easter weekend. It is interesting when you do an outing like this and see how each photographer views the subjects just a little bit differently.

I am pretty sure this is the same gorilla I photographed in 2006. This time I knew a little more what I was doing both with the camera and software.

For me the only way to process a gorilla photo is in BW. I hope you enjoy this effort.

Worked well, good job, must not have been rampaged by kids

  • Thanks. Actually the postion I was in started to get me rather frustrated. The angle was such that people standing well out of my way were not in my way, but they did not realize I could see their reflections. I think I waited hear 15 minutes to be able to get a shot with no one by or near me.

This one turned out great. Mine seems a little grainy compared to yours but for my first effort at a black and white I think I did ok.

  • Thank you. Here are the techs – ISO 800, f/5.6, 1/50th sec.

I really pushed the darks on this image. It seems it helps control grain and noise.

oh my gosh! The post processing you did makes it look like this gorilla came in and did a personal studio portrait sitting for you! AMAZING! Lovely lighting, fabulous expressive face _

  • Thank you very much. I was shooting for that kind of effect. I appreciate your comments.
