The day after Christmas 2010 I spent the better part of six hours sitting in the cold at the Brookfield Zoo attempting to get some nice shots of the new pack of eight Mexican Wolves.
The Brookfield Zoo is part of over 40 facilities participating in a reintroduction program for the most endangered North American wolf, the Mexican Wolf.
The Mexican Wolf is a subspecies of the Grey Wolf and America’s smallest wolf. According to Defenders of Wildlife there are about 50 wolves in the wild as of 2008.
The eight at Brookfield consist of 5 females and 3 males. The females are in heat and due to all the wolves being related, they have been separated.
