These are a couple of Mexican Wolves They are vanishing breed.
This image was taken at the Minnesota Zoo. I was a good day. They were very alert and seemingly intrigued with the camera.

LOL…thanks man. I forgot about this shot. I had posted some others of the same wolves in the past but forgot about this one.
I was looking in my zoo pictures to post more just to rub some that have been having unecessary debates over shooting in a zoo versus the “wild”.

Scott this is a calendar image, and I don’t say that patronizingly. This could easily be taken just about anywhere in the wild (if they were still out there)! Nice job

Thanks a bunch. I know it is sad they are stuck in captivity. It was nice to see just how healthy looking these are. You may see I have several images of different animals from the Minnesota Zoo. They really seem to keep the animals well fed and in large, natural enclosures.
I would die if this image ever made it to a calendar. I mean, other than my making a calendar here at RB.

I did add a link regarding Mexican Wolves. They are a great looking dog. My understanding is that they are no longer in the wild. I hope that can change one day.

This was taken at the Minnesota Zoo. I live in Green Bay WI. It is a bit of a drive but worth it. I have been to the Minnesota Zoo four times in the last year. They really take care of their animals well and provide them large/natural enclosures.

Captive or not. They are still beautiful creatures and lucky to have a home that loves them. Not so for those that get shot every day for walking on ranchers land.

Great shot Scott, They Where extinct here in Idaho /wyoming/ Montana, then they REinterduced them , not so good for them or livestock owners they have become a pain in the butt to say the least, they are soon going to open season on them because of the massive numbers.. In the end no one wins sad to say.. they are a beautiful animal

A great capture Scott! These wolves are so very rare & it’s great to see they are preserved in some zoos as well as a few reserves – maybe one day these guys will help boost wild populations

Thank you very much. I have not been to see the wolves yet this year. I may reserve that trip for this winter. Winter seems to be a better time for photographing them. This shot was taken in winter.
