This lovely couple were on my kitchen window.. enjoying thier time together..lol.. So. I decided to stop washing anymore boring dishes and grabbed the camera and shot them upwards against the glass. The green tones are the reflections from the trees behind us.

Our Painted Ladies do a long trip to get here from Africa, breeding as they travel. They need to have exactly the right conditions to arrive in numbers large enough to cause an irruption. 1996 got everything right. Some years very few manage to cross over from Europe, so far a few have already been recorded, but that means nothing at this stage. The last 2 summers have been dismal with far too much rain, hopefully this year will be warmer and drier to give all the butterflies & moths a fighting chance. Spring has been promising so far.
