Taken the first week in May 2012. I can tell when bees are getting extremely fatigued from their non stop nectar gathering. When I find one completely exhausted, it’s easy to coax her on to my hand for a rest. The bee often adjusts her pollen load and scratches with her back legs. Sometimes she’ll lick my skin. In all my closeness with my bees, I’ve never been stung. The only time I can recall being stung was when I was in the loft part of our old barn when I was 5. I must have swung at the bee. I felt so offended that I got stung! It didn’t turn me away from bees. I think I just became determined to understand them and learn how to communicate with them.
