The State of Florida (in the U.S.) has just recently banned the fox and coyote pens, putting an end to the legal practice of trapping these beautiful animals and relocating them to a fenced in area to be chased to by a pack of dogs. Jasper’s Bogs has a link to a video by the Humane Society explaining this cruel practice and the efforts they are taking along with other animal rights groups to put an end to this inhumanity in all states.
Making this atrocity illegal is a critical step toward a better world. It’s a shame we have to have laws to stop people from committing such horrific acts of cruelty, but it’s a harsh, human reality. The second step, and Jasper sees this step as paramount in his crusade to end animal abuse, is to teach our children great compassion and respect for all life. Real change will come in future generations who believe that all creatures have inherent rights and are to be protected and loved.
Jasper never ceases to be shocked by the acts of some humans. He asks to everyone, yet no one in particular, “Who are you people who would participate in fox pens? Why would you have your dog chase a fox or coyote to death? Why?!”
