After a couple of very, very challenging weeks in my life, I got the chance to meet another marmot on the way to my cabin. I spent quite a bit of time with this little fellow. He was curious and semi-comfortable around me. It would be so delightful if he lived nearby, but he’s about 12 miles away …

We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace. ~Albert Schweitzer, The Philosophy of Civilization

That is a perfect shot. My friend feeds the ones in her “back forty” veggies and fruit. Sorry about your trying weeks, friend.

  • I would love to get to know these little guys. I find them when I travel the road between the town and my cabin – an hour’s drive. I need to spend time with them to really ‘know’ them. I would love them to be around my cabin. Ever since I was a little kid, I thought they were so adorable!

LOL … Betsy, such an adorable close up capture … just ♥ the body language! We were just up in the Hatcher Pass area this past weekend, and we were lucky enough to encounter two of these little fellows … one poised for quite a while along the roadway while the other didn’t want his picture taken at all … and he quickly escaped. Take Care ~ Rick & Deb ~ ☺

  • I find the same thing. One will pose endlessly without much care at all while another will run and hide!
