redbubbles hottest 100 Vol 14
Bee…you are one of my all time favorite women. I love your attitude, your coolness, your talent, your taste in music and your beautiful heart. You are my type of girl. Tell us about your initial thoughts when you first came across redbubble?
My landing in RB was unintended. I was home, bored, amusing myself with Google, searching for stuff about pigeon phobia – which I have. Same with butterflies. They’re disgusting beings with pulsing bodies showing of fragility. (Any shrink around?) I understand what others see in them but I am more a lover of spiders and cockroaches like the gorgeous Australian Giant Burrowing. I came across a site where I saw a t-shirt.. I wanted it really bad… Click to purchase… And I was in RB in Sjem’s profile. It was his ’’No Pigeons’’ tee. But I started to nose around all the artworks I was able to find and I forgot about it. I didnt buy it until months later. Being familiar and bored with other communities, I fell in love with what was going on in RB and I stayed. I made a small place of my own and started sharing what comes out of my mind in form of what some happen to call Art.
The first redbubbler who made you feel most welcome?
Dave (Lostboy). I’m still in touch with him. I dont know what happened and I’m not interested. I dont take part in lynchings and riots for many years but I miss his art a lot. We share some interests like model tanks, steaks, clay and Lego men. Then I crossed ways with you and that was kind of a blessing too. You’re a very different mind to what’s around these days and you liked Cajun Music.
An artist or artists who have inspired you?
Francisco de Goya y Lucientes. Always. To me the best painter ever on Earth. Even my end of career project was about him and his Black Paintings. And I am so lucky I could go study them every week in El Prado Museum. I am also a big lover of Paul Klee, Frida and Diego Rivera and many others I get a kick out of the work of guys like Mike Mignolla or Daniel Martín Díaz (you should check his drawings).
Tell us about the Festival you have just attended in the U.S?
South by Southwest (SxSW) in Austin, Texas. I saw Roky Erickson singing again, able to smile and looking sweet. I got all emotional. It’s the second time I go there and I have the intention to come back as much as I can. It is mainly an inspiring thing for me.I’m not very good at accurate facts but I think it initiated by the end of the 80’s as a local event and less than 1000 tickets were sold, to help local acts break through. Today more than 10.000 registrants go there and they say over 300.000 music lovers walk the streets of Austin during the days the 1.400 or so bands play in the many venues there. All kind of bands. I just like it. I like the vibe, the city, the locals, the margaritas with salt, to be able to hook up with old friends I rarely see, the sound of live music cuddling you day and night. Watching humans queueing to see live music makes me happy. And the bat community that lives under one of the city bridges and it is heavily protected and cherished. This festival helps independent bands & labels to try to reach a higher ground. Quite a tough thing in this time of big trouble for the music community which I quit 2 years ago. But also big bands would play their ’’secret shows” there. This year Metallica and Jane’s Addiction showed up. I’ll be posting a few shots I took there any moment now.
A place you have never been…but want to?
Polynesia. I will go one day. I have to see the Moai face to face, not just in National Geographic.
I have a ticket to a Neil Young concert in one hand and a Scorpion in a jar, in the other….I’m offering you one of them…which would you choose and why?
Oh woman..The ticket! A scorpion in a jar can’t beat a live music session of someone I like. I see what you’re doing here! Yes I’m one of those… The Constellation was named like that by the Akkadians. “The Stinger”, ’’The Seizer’’. I ‘m an aracnids woman and I understand the magic humans see around scorpions but truth is a scorpion will run like the wind if facing something bigger than him!
Things that make you go…hmmm?
I’ll give you one, partially. Put together Kyuss’ Sky Valley, two bottles of red wine and my husband peeking at me like a kid from behind his black hair. I dont need much more to go ’’hmm’’. I’m a Scorpion :P
The happiest moment in your life so far?
Can’t pick one. But the day my father didn’t die (he was taken dead to hospital) may be one of the happiest days I have a recorded memory of. The day I helped to put all my shit in the movers truck to leave Spain and start a life with my husband. And when he literally took me to SxSW in a cotton carriage the first time in my life. The day BB King nearly broke my spine with a hug. The day I first ever ate okra. The day I understood beer is good and I had the legal age to buy it. The day my Mum showed me the first drawing I made when I was 13 months… I have millions of happiest moments :)
The name of a song you remember from your childhood?
Too many. But I was 9 in 1981 and my older cousin took me to my first concert. AC/DC playing in the Bull Ring in Madrid. I couldnt get Hells Bells out my child-mind and I would mumble it I couldnt speak English then at all times. I still can sing the Smurfs theme song. And The Love Boat.
Thank you Little one :P
X Bee.
No..gracias abeja hermosa.
Mi amigo ;) x
