Onondaga Communing With The Great Peacemaker by

Chief Hiawatha, follower of the Great Peacemaker, a Prophet and Spiritual Leader.

Onondaga Prayer

O Great Spirit, whose breath gives life to the world and whose voice is heard in the soft breeze….make us wise so that we may understand what you have taught us, help us learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock, make us always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades, as the fading sunset, our spirits may come to you without shame.

    Great art!

  • Thanks Duncan for your comment! I’m glad you like it! Onondaga heritage comes to me through my Mother’s Mother, from her Mother. So my maternal great grandmother.

Beautiful image!! Just love the colors. I am familiar with the Prayer….always glad to see others using our heritage in such positive light ;o)

  • Hi Shiloh! Thanks so much for your comment! I wish we could get further into my maternal great grandmother’s Onondaga history. My brother has been researching for years and just can’t come up with anything. He’s gone back to the 1700’s with Chapman, on my Mom’s father’s side. Sad that it stops at Ella Agusta Hill, who I am named after. My father’s side too, is a hard one. Our roots are so important and deep that, I think we can feel their presence.
