New Lights Art Prize by Lisa V Robinson

The Valerie Sykes prize is an new arts prize dedicated to supporting young painters in the North of England, with a prize award of £10,000 going to the winner. Paintings by 24 northern artists have been shortlisted from the 232 entries for the award by a panel of independent judges representing the arts world. The judges are Kate Brindley, Director of Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (mima); Paul Hobson, Director of the Contemporary Arts Society and William Tillyer, an international artist.
The exhibition continues until 8th January 2012.

The shortlist comprises of: Freya Horsley; Thomas Rimmington; Sally Taylor; Holly Major, Scarborough; Naomi Wrigglesworth, Leeds; Nat Quinn, Lyndsey Jameson, Darlington; Lisa V Robinson, Wakefield; Monica Metsers, Kendal; Sean Penlington, Manchester; Matthew Child, Warrington; Julian Mably, Conisbrough; Matthew Thompson, Huddersfield; Cecilia Stenbom, Karl De Vroomen, Gateshead; William Bradley, Richmond; Matt Spencer, Carnforth; Alexander Charrington, Mike Pratt, Ally Morton, Francesca Hudson, all Newcastle; and Michael Lawton, Jamie Taylor, Hayley Harrison, London.
