Protection

Lisa Knechtel

Burnaby, Canada

Artist's Description

This sandstone sculpture was made in 1912 and was “protector” of the Centre Street bridge in Calgary, Alberta, Canada since 1917. As the elements began to have their way, the lion was moved to a safe location in front of city hall.
I liked the idea that the lion still offers protection to the citizens.
