when I dance, I am no longer thinking and it is better than a drug

music tickles every pore of my body with its celestial feathery fingers
seeping deeply within

mixing a new juice into the blood that sings through my veins
between my head and heart there is a brilliant beat

my senses merge
waking my body into its holistic divinity

on a crowded floor there is nobody at all
no scent, touch or thought to break my back
only a blood surging beat and me

I dance
until my feet bleed
there is no pain when the mind has joined the swaying body.

Music is part of the soul there is no doubt, and it can reach every part of every emotion of our being. Wonderful read Lisa.
    x

  • Lisa Jewell replied

indeed music is transforming and transporting very much a part of who I am or perhaps what makes me who I am.

    thanks Daniel,
this little piece is the closest I could get to describing how I feel when I dance….

  • Erika .

    Erika .

Music heals the soul indeed. Lisa you are soaring in this piece, I can feel your lightness of being and the beautiful soft emotions that music only brings. It brought a smile to my face. It also reminded me of this I think you’ve read it already :)

no scent, or touch or thought to break my back ...I can so feel this.

You dance so beautifully dear friend. xxx

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    Darling one,
yes I’d have to say that when I dance I am as light as the air…..for me it is the only way to give my head a rest. Your piece sings to me…
thanks for your delightful love xox

they say that god created the world from the vibration of his voice on the waters – if there is any magic left in the world it is to be found in music. I truly believe that. a beautiful song ma cherie!

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    sigh
you speak my hearts width, for yes magic is found in music..right now I’m listening to the music of my own heartbeat.

this felt light and lovely to write…a change up ;) xox

Wow, Lovely. I think it actually does release a drug, some kind of endorphin. I can’t believe it happened to you too, maybe it’s a Melbourne thing ;-). Only once in my life have I danced until my feet bled and that was in Melbourne in 1989, you reminded me and now I many have to write about it… thanks Lisa x

  • Lisa Jewell replied

I’m the type to go to a place of dance and before it time or another foot has been placed on the dance floor you shall find me.
It is one of the few times I’m not self conscious, well most of the time ;)

so glad to have inspired :)) xo

I love to ‘dance’, i say ‘dance’ in that it is more a swing, sway, whirling dervish, twist, gyrate, a ‘get down and get up again’ release that transports my body and mind to a nowhere place.
...I close my eyes and I am there (wherever there is)
    I love to ‘dance’
A sigh and beautiful desciption of the dance Lisa…sandra x

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    you feel it too :)))
    how lovely you describe dance….
    now I’m sighing...

today I shall dance through my day xoxo

I am so there with you..Ok here goes..
After the one day and a half of being in your glorious cave.. we do the dressup thing and put make up on infront of each other while you sip a wine and I sip a tea.. then we get to looking so dang hot.. as I will come in your winter and wear my boots and my black jeans
with some damn fine ass sexy top.. and I know anything you wear is hot.. so then we get in the car and go out to dinner.. the place we go to always has great service and very cute boys..then we flirt and then we go dancing.. and dancing and more dancing.. cause like you said…
_on a crowded floor there is nobody at all
no scent, touch or thought to break my back
only a blood surging beat and me

    I dance
    until my feet bleed
there is no pain when the mind has joined the swaying body_
Only we will have each other and we will not ever be alone..
    yep.. oxooxxoxoxoxoxxo

  • Lisa Jewell replied

Oh I bet you look HOT in your black jeans and boots ;) how lovely it is to have a flirt and dance for hours, on Friday night I danced the night away with two young boys…it was so cool as they did not seem to mind dancing with a much older woman…

you and I on a dance floor hehe watch out world :)))

I felt especially this one Lisa. I love music. And let me tell you I am a diabetic, with arthritis, ashma (physical activity will bring it on), carpal tunnel, neuropathic nerve damage and so forth, but when they turn on music and I am especially in a party, I will start dancing until there is not tomorrow. The pain? What pain? Oh, yes, tomorrow, pain killers. But, that will be tomorrow and tomorrow is another day. lol But this one I was enjoying reading every word of it. Great one. Loved it. Iris

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    Oh Iris,
I’m sorry to read you’ve quite a few different ailments, I am very pleased to read that you too get dancing :)))
and yes, you are right about tomorrow, yesterday I did not get off the couch almost all day but it was sure worth it…

    thank you so kindly xoxo

i’m no dancer any more with my bad bones but certain songs get you moving no matter what….let’s face it pretty much everyone drags out to something at some point…..

  • Lisa Jewell replied

when I visit my father in the nursing home, there is always music playing, a particular woman always captures me, she is in a wheelchair yet her body is moving to the music, her arms glide beautifully through the air and her smile and well it is sad she can’t move her legs any more but it is also joyous that she still keeps moving.

What a georgeous uplifting piece of work and so true ” waking my body into its holistic divinity”...its like the beat of the music comnencts you to the beatof the earth …beautifully writting about an expereince that I agree can be almost spiritual . Here’s a little something that always makes me leap around the house or justt dance in my chair …am not normally into remixes but love this :)xo

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    oh yeah baby,

I’ve this remix on my ipod…...like you I’m not really into the remix but some are just way cool and this one has me dancing up the bluestone cobble lanes.

thanks so much for your beautiful comment and the song xoxo

this is a bit naughty but I really go off to it

(PS – I am really an 80’s disco queen but I can mix it up)

Just reading the poem I knew you felt music, see the beat, and taste the rhythm. When a good song comes on I’m on the living room floor and most of the time my grand daughter joins me in dance. Teaching her to dance whether anyone is watching or not….who cares
    A wonderfully moving write….encore

  • Lisa Jewell replied

you have such a wonderful way with words…. A natural poet, I’m still mulling over the words in the comment you wrote me where you said ‘Youve coloured me happy’.... so beautiful, even your comments are filled with soul and poetic. :)

  • Lisa Jewell replied

I am very comfortable in my world of words, I’m so glad they please others as much as me. Thanks Jen x x

  • Kristin Reynolds

    Kristin Reynolds

    yes indeed.
music, like poetry, is the voice of life itself. there is nothing at all like having the world literally melt away, as you become one with music.
    dance on, beauty.
    xo

  • Lisa Jewell replied

oh yes Kristin, it is that melt away…..sigh a truly magical feeling. When you’ve a head that thinks non-stop there has to be away to let it melt away and I’ve a very few ways to do so, most assuredly dancing is on the top of the list.

love the song…naughty but nice.beat ....naughty is good on the dance floor. I am also an 80’s disco queen myself but can mix it up too :)..and speaking of mixing it up….....just having small break at the moment but am at my parents place helping them set up for my father’s name day and am bopping along to macedonian(balkan) folk music …not quite the same spiritual experience we are speaking off but the body cant help but move to those drum beats and clarinet rythms none the less :)))))..

  • Lisa Jewell replied

OH you must see if you can find a link for me, there is no music style (genre) I don’t like, folk is one of my favourites, though I tend to listen to more Celtic. I hope your father and you have a wonderful family day :))

  • Lisa Jewell replied

yeah I figured it was time to add something light….when I’m on the dance floor there is nobody but me….that is until I bump into someone…but even when I’m dancing with other people, I’m not really in a sense, it is hard to explain. As I said about there are many places to get down ;) xo

Ohhhh I lurve to dance….a do very little of it these days. I do remember though dancing on a particular amazing Friday night…That dance is to be repeated me thinks ;O) x ….To let our bodies forget the chatter in our head and be the vehicle for the music. Dancing is a celebration of the tribal connection we have with each other me thinks…. We all belong to one tribe even though we wear different skins… You have reminded me how the beat of life can be a healing music….thankyou for putting your red dancing shoes on…MWah XOXOXOXO
