unlikely or

A rose wore only a black veil
her Hecate flesh
renounced itself in the valley of the Queens
lips carved
from the holy sunrise
turned to bone
her soul
was stolen
during the winter solstice

A thorn wore only a tortoise shell
his Odin flesh
announced itself in the valley of the Queens
lips carved
from the holy sunset
turned to silk
his soul
given freely
during the midsummer solstice

A Shakespearian love affair
wrote new history
a hardened rose
fell deeply in love with a softened thorn
no peculiarity
it was written
in the skies of Avalon
before
you and me

    oh.
    goodness.
bloody hell lady love, your words do this to me… i swoon, i swan around as i slip under and into their trance… and then smack... a clap to my heart… before you and me... i adore this. and as always, your inferred knowledge, the way you pull things from here and there and tie them in a bouquet so uniquely yours… well… you still, always, leave me slackjawed with your skill and ability. i love this little jewell.

Beyond beautiful Lisa – the imagery here is entirely captivating, perfectly moving. The thorn and the rose as Shakespearean drama – “written in the skies of Avalon before you and me.” That line alone would bring me to my knees in awe. Maybe – just maybe – the most beautiful thing you’ve ever written and that, my dear, is really going some! Superb writing.

The impossible becoming the possible….a love that has enough breath to breathe all the way from the valley of the Queens to the skies of Avalon… This was no mist that faded into legend…you so wrote for me of that kind of love that has a strength beyond the immediate. Beautifully blessed are those that will not be diminished by time etching days upon them…
Your romantic verse is wonderfully unique in your sublime scenting….XXXX

  • Lisa Jewell replied

you have done it again my Darling,
your comment is a written piece,
    how I love your voice.

    perhaps darling
such love only exists on parchment?
    I hope not

thesis, antithesis, synthesis – hegel would bow low and sweep off his black hat to you. our souls are taken when the sun is the furthest from us and given when it returns. we are both rose and thorn – each third of the cycle not to be rejected lest the inertia of an incomplete marriage occur. and i would so like to see the skies of Avalon! a beautiful, insightful romance of the most realistic kind. you are a bardess! x

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    your thoughts are so flattering,
I am blushing. Hegel, takes me back to Philosophy 101 I was only thinking I need to return to study.

Lisa this is goddam brilliant, truly. I found it more accessible than some of your others. The hard rose and the soft thorn was pure genius, the paradox, like yin within yang and vice versa. And the ending so satisfying -
    no peculiarity
If ever I would “fall in love” with a piece this might be the one. Thanks for the link.

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    Oh wow,
I had a feeling you might enjoy,
    and appreciate the interchange
one of the things that is very important to me
is the understanding that soft can be hard and vise versa

I hope you and my “unlikely or” are very happy together hehe xxx

It works, but it is hard and underneath it hurts…

  • Lisa Jewell replied

A hardened rose and a soften thorn
Are to my mind a perfect match..

but I don’t think we’re really speaking about that,

functionality on its own would leave a partially empty feeling and it is that emptiness that causes the hurt feeling.

  • Mark Ramstead

    Mark Ramstead

It seems to me that filling that empty hole, hurts others even more…

  • Lisa Jewell replied

Anytime we attempt to fill a hole with a person
    We are ostensibly using them
This never can go down well
Exchange of care and love should never be about filling a person’s hole.

I’ve come to learn that unlikely is always a possibility….........
You cement this here, and portray the ideal love in a completely never say never format of unrealistic dreams and desires, turned completely all the way around and into a world of ‘believe and it will happen’.........one that works for me…......
I’m gonna start writing your poems all over my study walls (they are very old and need repainting so it would look awesome!) so at any given time I can look up and read you into my day or night and smile and dream…..sigh
    xxxo

‘Yes’. ‘Written in the skies of Avalon before you and me’. And therin lays so much truth, sometimes a truth we do not understand, its why’s and wherefore’s but a knowing inside, that sometimes requires much faith and courage to believe and to cling on…...Occasionally we falter and slip, as we a mere mortals, suffering from mortal weakness…..Learning to allow the wings to fly is a step we can take once we trust that they will not let us fall…....much thought, thank you Lisa…... Deeply beautiful, a read that that sings out….Some say Afal some say Aval but perhaps thats just a welsh / cornish thing….x o

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    Hi Lawrie,

what a lovely comment :))) in my dream world I’m not a mere mortal, how lovely is that?
