so he changed the lock
when I tried to enter
my key no longer worked
I thought about my next move
while sitting on the bluestone kerb
I bit down on my lip so hard
blood flowed into my mouth
moss grew up through my toes
surrounding my ankles in velvety green
a singing voice perched on my shoulder
in a trusting way each morning
it was nice
stories invented their course
hills of rolling heather and she in a Nun habit
smiling such a smile I could have died in that moment
Alexander’s library resurfaced from Atlantis
spewing manuscripts into her feasting lap
children laughed long and swept away her fear
evolving into towers of strength and beauty
time slowed to a single tick in her right cheek
shadows wrapped a shawl around her deepest wind
the key spoke a last word
Goodbye
Thomas Simunsen
a very well told tale of sadness, waiting, exceptance. I could see the images grow around you like a movie. You’re wonderful at painting pictures with words…...=D
Lisa Jewell replied
Thank you so kindly, Thomas…..I truly appreciate your thoughts xxx

Perfect writing! Great work, Lisa; we each hold the key to our own freedom or continued imprisonment—-it is more mental than physical. And what is determined in the mind will in time transpire to the body. xox
Lisa Jewell replied
Beautifully stated, Joe….thankyou so very kindly xx

Or piecing you back together with a few bits missing and a few new bits added? So that the stories invent a new course, but one with many of the same travelling companions. I have a collection of keys that no longer fit anything in my life, a few years ago I threw out dozens of them and I’ve not missed a single one… :-)
Lisa Jewell replied
I do like to travel with like minded people even if only my invention. I am a minimalist yet I suspect I horde keys. x
Leon Walker
Lisa I just love your work!!! I really do…
Lisa Jewell replied
I am so honoured you do, thanks Sir Leon x

Exquisitely sharp images Lisa with so much wisdom contained in poetic words and phrases that are as good as they could be. I can so relate to this – as I’m sure most of us can. Brilliantly done.
Lisa Jewell replied
Oh Lianne, you are so generous with your thoughts, I am so thrilled to be on the receiving end. And yes indeed, I’ve no doubt many shall relate.
Thank you so kindly xx

Although I had a sense of aching sadness in parts of this, my favourite line surrounding my ankles in velvety green has me thinking I might need a new pair of green velvet boots if i can find them. Big smiles, hugs and laughter gorgeous Lisa :)))
Lisa Jewell replied
Oh I shall be on the look out for a pair of green velvet boots….I think I could almost carry that look off hehe….thank you so much Deb, tis true a great deal of sadness but there is also a great deal of hopefulness. xx

You are a wonderful enigma Lisa!!! x
Lisa Jewell replied
I take that as a compliment,
I am often mysterious to me…;) x

Is this a new ‘Alice’ ...I wonder with many stories to tell and adventures brimming on her lap…but no red shoes to click three times to get her home. Are there new stories now… the old key is not the key she really needed perhaps? XXXXX
Lisa Jewell replied
You always have a way of making me think more, which my lordy is good…no matter where I go, I shall always be wearing my red shoes xxxx
erika15
Oh wow, Lisa…..my soul felt these words.
You’re going to have to forgive me, I think I’ve ran out of words to comment on your poetry. It’s just indescribable. You are indescribable…..it takes to read your poetry to understand that there’s a deeper universe within you and the words you write are just the doorway, the beginning of discovering who you are. Sorry if I sound a bit over-the-top, but that’s what I really think. Each of your poems is a unique journey, and you are the destination. xxxxx
Lisa Jewell replied
I think Erika,
I’m working my way out….
If I was to write down all the thoughts I had. Well I fear I shall never leave the keyboard.
I am beginning to consider I do have a novel in me. It will certainly involve the consistency of inconsistency.
Thank you so much, Darling Heart xxxx
mimi yoon
yes, you are incredible but more you are beautiful, dearest lisa…. as is this poem….

Lisa Jewell replied
Thankyou Mimi…..you do know I think and feel the same way about you. xxx

and then hello and onward..there are many keys I guess. Reminds me of a Howling Wolf song, Sitting On Top of the World, “She’s gone and I’ve got no worries”, new key new life new adventures. Lovely write Lisa, sorry i ran on like that … :)
Lisa Jewell replied
Yes perhaps that was his thinking…..
making me go and having no worries.
No more keys for me ;)

I’m not really sure what make of this Lisa..my feelings are mixed, a sadness, a loss, but also a sense of a new life. Just my thoughts x
Lisa Jewell replied
I often think that is exactly how it is…mixed feelings. Thank you Peter xxx

We could talk for hours about this I’m sure:
“Alexander’s library resurfaced from Atlantis
spewing manuscripts into her feasting lap”
This is so absolutely sublime that I’m going to read it a third time! x

can I just revel in this whole piece.. this writing has brought such joy to my body right now .. I am in awe of these lines I posted.. so simple and yet so acccessable to my brain and heart and soul.. I don’t want to do anything except wrap each stanza around my Being.. I love this piece so much.. Really, My dar ..for me you have sent a balm of joy directly into my heart.. I have to go now.. cause I have to start wrapping this around me.. Bravo.. is so vague and paltry in what you have created here….. feels like just for me..
Lisa Jewell replied
I wonder if you’ve any idea how you make me feel? I am so blown away by your words, I find it difficult to string a sentence together, and it is times like this I wish I could hug you..xxx
Jack Grace

Isn’t it amazing how such pain can produce such beauty? It’s tough to comment on something so eloquent yet so tragic.
Lisa Jewell replied
I suspect that is often the course of beauty….a painful birth.
thanks so much, I truly appreciate you reading my work, and your thoughts.
Shoaib .
i wouldnt change the lock on you my dear, actually i would make you a spare key, maybe even cook for you once in a while ;) LOL love youuuuuuu

Changing the locks is a coward’s way out. Didn’t have the courage to face you. Better off without him. Excellently written.
Lisa Jewell replied
The changing of the lock was not literal…but yes that would be a coward’s act. Thanks so much. xxx

A fresh start and a new novel? The thrown away keys are the very words, flowing and colourful lyrics, awaiting you to splash that canvas! Well done, I enjoyed this!
Lisa Jewell replied
Thank you so very much for reading and your thoughtful interpretation, it means a great deal to me.
I do believe I make a new start each day, perhaps adding a new page to a life novel..
