picking me apart

he was unsure
so he changed the lock
when I tried to enter
my key no longer worked

I thought about my next move
while sitting on the bluestone kerb
I bit down on my lip so hard
blood flowed into my mouth

moss grew up through my toes
surrounding my ankles in velvety green
a singing voice perched on my shoulder
in a trusting way each morning

it was nice

stories invented their course

hills of rolling heather and she in a Nun habit
smiling such a smile I could have died in that moment
Alexander’s library resurfaced from Atlantis
spewing manuscripts into her feasting lap

children laughed long and swept away her fear
evolving into towers of strength and beauty
time slowed to a single tick in her right cheek
shadows wrapped a shawl around her deepest wind

the key spoke a last word

Goodbye

a very well told tale of sadness, waiting, exceptance. I could see the images grow around you like a movie. You’re wonderful at painting pictures with words…...=D

Perfect writing! Great work, Lisa; we each hold the key to our own freedom or continued imprisonment—-it is more mental than physical. And what is determined in the mind will in time transpire to the body. xox

Beautifully stated, Joe….thankyou so very kindly xx

Or piecing you back together with a few bits missing and a few new bits added? So that the stories invent a new course, but one with many of the same travelling companions. I have a collection of keys that no longer fit anything in my life, a few years ago I threw out dozens of them and I’ve not missed a single one… :-)

  • Lisa Jewell replied

I do like to travel with like minded people even if only my invention. I am a minimalist yet I suspect I horde keys. x

Exquisitely sharp images Lisa with so much wisdom contained in poetic words and phrases that are as good as they could be. I can so relate to this – as I’m sure most of us can. Brilliantly done.

  • Lisa Jewell replied

Oh Lianne, you are so generous with your thoughts, I am so thrilled to be on the receiving end. And yes indeed, I’ve no doubt many shall relate.

Although I had a sense of aching sadness in parts of this, my favourite line surrounding my ankles in velvety green has me thinking I might need a new pair of green velvet boots if i can find them. Big smiles, hugs and laughter gorgeous Lisa :)))

  • Lisa Jewell replied

Oh I shall be on the look out for a pair of green velvet boots….I think I could almost carry that look off hehe….thank you so much Deb, tis true a great deal of sadness but there is also a great deal of hopefulness. xx

Is this a new ‘Alice’ ...I wonder with many stories to tell and adventures brimming on her lap…but no red shoes to click three times to get her home. Are there new stories now… the old key is not the key she really needed perhaps? XXXXX

  • Lisa Jewell replied

You always have a way of making me think more, which my lordy is good…no matter where I go, I shall always be wearing my red shoes xxxx

Oh wow, Lisa…..my soul felt these words.
You’re going to have to forgive me, I think I’ve ran out of words to comment on your poetry. It’s just indescribable. You are indescribable…..it takes to read your poetry to understand that there’s a deeper universe within you and the words you write are just the doorway, the beginning of discovering who you are. Sorry if I sound a bit over-the-top, but that’s what I really think. Each of your poems is a unique journey, and you are the destination. xxxxx

  • Lisa Jewell replied

    I think Erika,
    I’m working my way out….
If I was to write down all the thoughts I had. Well I fear I shall never leave the keyboard.
I am beginning to consider I do have a novel in me. It will certainly involve the consistency of inconsistency.

Thank you so much, Darling Heart xxxx

Isn’t it amazing how such pain can produce such beauty? It’s tough to comment on something so eloquent yet so tragic.
