The pier and the stained shadow
This poem is a memory of a dream
The pier and the stained shadow belongs to the following groups:
All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Core [C.O.R.E], Freedom In Words & Art, Freedom to Shine and Midnight Ramblersthe string bowed between her heart and mind
snapped free
as she sank through
her whirlpool creation
all she had wanted to do
had been stepped out on a Sunday pier
seven siren’s propped on buoys lured her to the end
singing “Where do you go to my lovely”
she pondered life creation
her Marie-Claire simulacrum
the traveller Time
shadowed her colour by number design
for the thousandth time she repainted orange
pine trees grew
through the periwinkle blue
she painted on a red and white gingham parting dress
poured her stain into concrete boots
ripped a hole in the canvas sea
tugged at her creation one last time
promising not to use the words good and bye
all she had wanted to do on a Sunday pier
was jettison her stained shadow
she mulled as she frantically dog paddled
through her dissolving colour
_________
addendum
snorkelling through a stained glass pane
I caught a glimpse
of her red and white gingham dress
painting the ocean floor

You’ve captured exactly how Life has left me to feel, most days. Eloquently. xox
Lisa Jewell replied
The shared human condition…..makes me wonder why we so often feel a feeling of isolation when at the end of the day, we all struggle…
Thank you very much Beautiful xx

Your words read as softly and smoothly as a dream too… :-)

even when dreaming
oh and fingers that like to tap out thoughts and feelings…
Thanks Rany :)

Matt Penfold
Shadowed her colour and coloured her shadow. A beautifully evoked tug-of-war. Another lovely piece Lisa :-)

The song is one of my fav’s….love the lyrics….I listened that first before reading these verses. I imagined you walking along with your pots of paint and brushes juggling them a little but with determination on your face to paint the orange, the party dress. We just gotta keep touching up the colour some days….even though it felt like it should of stayed fresh with colour for so much longer. They just don’t make life paints like that I guess. These I feel could also be called the ’ Engima of Painting my life by the Sea’.... This one is going to make me think about my own painting….XXXX
Lisa Jewell replied
I’m so glad you listened to the song for it is one of my fav’s too…..I love the imagery you’ve painted for me…thank you so much xxx
Lisa Jewell replied
I’ve moved addendum to the end of this piece….
I’m glad you were able to clearly see the vibrant colours….xxxx

I was taken with these two (technically three) lines: seven siren’s propped on buoys lured her to the end, pine trees grew through the periwinkle blue
The piece reads like a painting to me, despite my infatuation with the words, I feel the poem as a whole, stepping back from the words it leaves an impressionistic stamp on the backs of my eyes, maybe it’s the colors that are sprinkled throughout
A lot of your work does this to me, leaves me with a colored visual echo, and I love the idea of an addedum, I might have that off you, if you don’t mind :D
Lisa Jewell replied
Such a thoughtful comment, I’m truly warmed on this very chilly morning. I thank you kindly. I have to pinch myself when I realise that indeed people do enjoy my work.
What a total thrill…
Oh and I do love the impressionist’s and the surrealist’s – oh dangly I like most schools of art..
go for the addedum ;) hehe

You know when you write everything makes perfect sense in your head then it turns out very surreal on the page…which makes me wonder if my sense of surreal is truly my sense of real.

bloody hell honey.
it is actually impossible for me to pick a favourite line here, a favourite part… it’s all saturating my senses with the watery stuff of dreams… of the sea… there are so many fragments of imagery here… this is exquisite leese. i wholeheartedly love this and will be coming back here for seconds and thirds as each helping dissolves and i take my fill of the salty tang and sweetness. just… gorgeous writing.
Lisa Jewell replied
Awww you have such a way of making me feel like perhaps I am a writer….
For that I am deeply grateful,
For your care and friendship, I will remain in a constant state of bliss.

You paint with your eyes,
what is there,
illuminating your senses,
out of this world of limits,
unlimited verbose feelings.
And the result os a fantasy,
of a picture of beauty and sensuality
beyonder the usual comprehension.
Nothing to understand.. just follow the track
of your amazing star-soul.
Rosa (beautiful.. Lina was absolutely right about yout writing heart)
Lisa Jewell replied
Hi Rosa,
what a truly lovely and thoughtful comment. I appreciate it very much :)) I’m so pleased you enjoyed this piece xx

gosh
how vividly you paint her technicoloured spiral into dissolving.
Gurdjieff uses a metaphor of a horse, carriage, driver and passenger. The driver is drunk and wants only to sleep, the horse understands nothing that he says and the reins are not connected to the carriage. The carriage is in need of repair – it is too dirty and the passenger sees no point in climbing aboard. Only when the driver wakes up, the reins are connected, the carriage is fixed, the horse is tame – only then will the passenger climb into the carriage.
your poem reminded me of this – the singing string between her heart and mind is broken. anchorless she spins into the coloured void. you write like a true sufi – terrifying implications delivered with a honey voice. who can turn away from the beauty of your words and their deep portent?
