Siamese Cat

I used to think there were times I lived outside of myself; inside my ethereal shadow. I went as far as naming her Teresa. I missed out on an imaginary friend. I recall asking my mother, why I don’t have one. Her response was always comforting. “My Darling Sweetheart, she is joined to your navel.” “One day she will make her presence known and she will not leave you.” I used to poke her and giggle for two.

It happened as my mother predicted; though not in the way I expected. She did not come out of me. I went into her.

The time was painful
a memory I cannot speak of
I did not like me

I killed myself
so Teresa could
finally be born

The best part of me

Teresa laughed with life
spotted beauty in every second
loved in truth and untruth
crossed the bridge of heartbreak
skipped skirt hitched around a maypole

All for me

Til she too grew lonely
instead of killing herself off
Teresa kissed life into me
thumped my chest, raw
so I’d wake and be with her

So I’d finally see us

Artist's Description

Duality in singularity

It is important to recognise
That we
Are capable of great
And equally capable of bad

How do we reconcile this?
