Religion and Nudity

how do you feel about this photograph?
I’m personally not religious. I don’t believe in God, I believe in Evolution and Science.
BUT with this photo, I am by no means attempting to push my non-religious beliefs onto ANYBODY so please, don’t feel differently towards me for this.
Cyllan and I were being different, artsy, creative, and risky with this photo.
I know it may spark some religious controversy, and if you want to say you’re full opinion you are more than welcome to.
I respect everybody’s views, So please respect mine.
I am sorry in advance is this photograph does offend you.

i think, for some reason i have never been able to fathom, these two things do not mix well in the Christian world….which makes no sense to me! did Jesus never take his clothes off??! how can the act, the idea, of procreating cause so many to feel so nervous and fidgety inside? how can the wonder of the human body be such a source of shame for some???? kudos for your courage, lisa….

  • lisabella replied

i think of that too. i’m not necessarily a believer in God or religion, but i always wonder why it seems to be a big deal when people take their clothes off for a photograph, just so long as its tasteful. i mean we came into this world completely naked, is it only okay to be photographed nude when you’re a tot and being cute? like in the tub? i understand that the body is supposed to be a sacred temple but it’s YOUR sacred temple, and you should be able to do whatever you like with it [just so long as you’re not killing yourself…like with self-inflictions and whatnot]
i totally understand your point of view. thanks for sharing!

    Well done young lady…

Keep your beliefs, but never be afraid to go with creativity, regardless of where it takes you. Very proud of this one, shows guts to have taken it, to have had someone pose in it and a creative mind to have thought of it.

I created a series called the “White Room”, some of my most controversial work the first one posted on Sunday, school is in and I lost track of days so I really did not have a clue that it was Sunday, not that it would have changed anything but the name of the image is called “Sex in the white room” and you cannot imagine the amount of flack I got for posting on “that” day…

Never lose your creative spirit, your desire to push the envelope…

    Well done!

  • lisabella replied

thank you so much. i checked out your series its quite good. i’ll get to commenting when i’m more awake though. it is almost 2am and i’m about to head to bed.
you are a great artist! i’m going to add you to my watchlist :)

I think that picture is of the so called “person” that most in society call “Jesus” or “God”, but who could confirm it, as it all happened way beyond our time. Which came first – the Chicken or The Egg ?

I too, don’t have a religious bone in my body and to me, its all a load of crap and has poured heaps of fear into people and in many cases, created a society full of Sooky-La-la’s.

The Chinese worship a Cow and others worship other things. Myself – I worship the Sun…the would be my God, if I had to have one.

All my life I’ve asked people to explain to me how it all started and many questions still remain unanswered. We had Dinosaurs, Ape-men and in Australia we have Aboriginals. So, why didn’t God have different coloured skin ? Did he actually have a pair of testicles ? and who made his clothes ? as I thought extile machines did not exist way back then.

Who’s got control of God’s Family Tree and are there still Family Reunions ocurring ? Is the Queen related as well ? I’m gald I’ve got so many other things to do with my life than worry about religion.

As for the photo – I think the picture truly spoils it.

  • lisabella replied

can you elaborate on what you mean by “as for the photo – i think the picture truly spoils it” just because i’m a bit confused as to what you mean lol.
and thanks for your opinion and views on not only this picture, but your beliefs in general

What I meant was….the photo would be nicer without the ancient framed picture of a myth. Perhaps just a blank frame would do the trick…..I had a similar one on my site titled “Think outside the square”.

What I always found to be very funny is that in some churches in warm countries they make people wear ponchos if they should to must skin, like bare shoulders or cleavage. However when you’re inside the church all you see are paintings, sculptures and stained glass images or naked angels. :p
So I never really understood why nudity is such a major taboo in religious circles. If anyone should be proud of their body it should be people who believe a God created it right?

Anyhow, wonderful photo, I just love the green space on the floor matching the painting and also the positioning of the model.

uh, i’m a christian and i don’t understand what is so wrong with a naked woman.
    more people should be naked.
    haha.

way to provoke. I’d like to have seen what would have happened had you not written anything in the description. would there’ve been the same reaction?

as for christians and nudity, everyone knows that under a christian’s clothes there’s nothing but cotton candy and elevator music. which is pretty offensive to me, but who am I to judge? I’m glad the model wasn’t holding a picture of buddha… the explanation of that is a bit complicated.
