Elvaston Castle Grounds

Scanned print ~ original taken in 1999.
Self developed and printed.
I still LOVE B&W images.
This was taken with my favourite camera to-date – Nikon FM2 (fully manual) on 35mm 200asa Ilford film.

An amazing B&W capture ! Super tones and clarity and a great forest !

Thank you James. Although I scanned in fairly high resolution, there is a wealth of detail on the original print – and from only a 35mm negative! I wonder if the negative might scan better – must try it out sometime. Hope you are keeping well?

You’re on your own on that question. The only thing I know about film is that before Digital I took it to the Chemist’s to have it developed ! :)

Hm! ;o)) I did too, until I went (back) to Art College in 1996 and learnt all the technical stuff (mostly forgotten now). It was great fun and something I wouldn’t have missed for the world. Loved every minute of it!

Photography was nothing more than happy snaps and goofing off in front of the camera when I used a film camera. I may do an Advanced Photography course sometime, using digital.

If you get the opportunity, do go. It’s a great experience. I came out of school with no qualifications (years and years ago) and spent much of my life in dead-end-jobs. Wished I gone to College years ago but…...anyway, it was great. Great experience, great people (all ages), fun times. ;o))

I still love the B & W images, Lindsay, and this is a beauty. You can really appreciate the texture on the bark and the depth created by shadow here.

Nice black and white study , makes this more mythic and magical in a way, like something out of a Victorian tale.

Oh….so fine. I think one of the hardest things to capture is “the woods.” So hard for me to capture a focal point. I can never capture the trees for the forest. :) You have handled the situation masterfully. Your control of tonals in bw really pay of here!

Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comment. I just love B&W.
