Zanesville, Ohio, one of the premier pottery capitols of the country, was home of Weller pottery. This photo is a detail of the slip decorated roses adorning this nearly 4’ tall vase. It was simply breathtaking.
Many of the formulas for these slips and glazes are lost to time. The beautiful pottery that was once proudly displayed on many American tables and in china cabinets, is now on display in museums, as works of art. This particular pot is located at the Zanesville Art Center in Zanesville, Ohio.
I couldn’t help but think of the hands that created this thing of beauty, and the household in which it resided for so many years.
