This little frangipani flower has been waiting to be brought into the limelight for a while now. It grows in my daughter’s garden and has a beautiful scent. Was not sure whether to paint it, or do a pastel, I decided on a pastel taking advantage of the black Canson paper for the background.

Frangipani Flower

With its petals of pink and scent so divine
This frangipani flower is in its prime.
Its perfume is strong and oh so sweet,
It is the prettiest flower you will ever meet.

You are evolving a wonderful technique where the background is dark and strong, and then stunning vivid colour for the main focus! Great stuff Lindy Lou!

  • thank you so much Lyndy Lou…I like using the black paper especially with the greens .. ..(from my memory you are not too keen on using black yourself :) ? The flower was challenging…had to press those soft pastels down in a few layers to get the deep colour. Made sure I popped it under glass to keep the pastels from fading in between times when working on it. ..thanks again!

You are right Linda! I have never had any success with black paper, but you use it to great effect. I’m pretty sure Maria Paterson uses black paper quite often too, and her pastel work is also fabulous.

  • thanks Lyndy Lou …must go look at Maria’s work..:) have a great weekend!
