This little painting of a Red Post Box in England was inspired by a photo of my brother’s taken in his neighbourhood. I love the way the Red Post Box stands out against the White snow as a symbol of communication. Even though technology now plays a big part in keeping in touch we must not forget the ‘snail mail’ method and the anticipation of surprise we feel in receiving, gifts, letters and cards.
The Red Post Box
Some family and friends live far away,
So we cannot keep in touch day by day.
Still there is a Red box that stands tall and bright,
Faithful to all day and night.
All kinds of letters are pushed through its slot,
With greetings and notes of forget-me-nots
So follow the footprints to this beacon of Red,
Keep in touch, say hello, there is much to be said!
Acrylic on Canvas 12 × 6″
Footprints were added to give it a human touch. May this painting bring to mind someone whom you hold dear but is far away.
