Maple Leaves

Linda Callaghan

Maple Leaves

A 40cm x 40cm acrylic painting on canvas of maple leaves.

It was raining here one day so I grabbed my camera and went and took some photos of the glistening Japanese Maple leaves in our garden. I decided to paint them on a canvas painted black to show off their colours and add contrast and was very pleased with the outcome.

Maple Leaves

See the leaves on the maple tree
The rain has gone, they blow wild and free…
Sparkling raindrops settle and gleam
A delightful show that must be seen!

This was a great idea Linda…..love the contrasts in the colours…well done…

  • Linda Callaghan replied

thanks so much Janis…I had trouble at first with paint soaking into the canvas (even after it was painted black….so I put a light varnish on it which could be painted over and it was ok) ...layered the paint on to the the ‘pop’ effect …

  • Janis Zroback

    Janis Zroback

It’s so unusual to be green at all…must be a different species…all the ones that grow here, and I have a huge one in my backyard, the lowest branches are way above my head, are red all the time, but in fall that red becomes very fiery indeed…

  • Linda Callaghan replied

mine do go very red too a yellow/orange/red which is seasonal…wonder if it something to do with the climate as we live in the mountains…
