Sizzling Sunset

Linda Callaghan

Sizzling Sunset

An acrylic painting on canvas 60cm x 30cm of the sun setting over the shadowed land. Night is approaching and the sun paints the sky with its sizzling rays in protest of its retreat. A painted memory of a romantic sunset.

The sun is setting over the hill
the air is calm the night is still
It paints the sky with its sizzling rays
it retreats for the night until the next day…..

Linda

This was my first painting done on an easel my husband built for me.

Oh, what colors did you use on the mountain? Its a nice brown black.

  • Linda Callaghan replied

Hi Leslie,,,the colour for the mountain is black and I mixed colours to obtain the first purple layer using magenta…blue and white….and over that is a vermillion red and then the yellow and white.pulled down gently with a fan brush. Hope that helps?

A nice starburst, like the lens flares of a camera lens.
The real star of this painting, is the lovely muted reflections at the bottom.
    Excellent painting, Linda!

I’m now looking at acrylic as possible medium – but I love the ‘comfort zone’ of watercolor!!

  • Linda Callaghan replied

yes it is Colin :-D …..First time I tried acrylics I painted Long Island and it looked very much like my watercolours…until I started to use them with less water…then the colours were stronger…looking forward to seeing yours!!!..it is exciting experimenting with different paints to see what one can do…thanks so much for your comment Colin.
