Sunset Stroll

Linda Callaghan

Sunset Stroll

A loose watercolour painting with touches of acrylic on Arches paper.

Imagine an evening stroll along a hidden trail as the sun is setting throwing its warm glow across the shady trees… I did and this is what I created. Nothing like a glorious night to motivate one for a walk!

Evening Stroll

The sky was alight to my delight
oh my look at those colours what a sight!
Let’s go for a stroll I said to my dog
the night is clear, no rain, no fog.

The flowers were dancing their colours aglow
the tree branches swaying putting on a show
the night lit up we were bathed in light
Oh for sure this was a glorious night!

I am getting a bit inspired to try watercolor but have no clue whe to start…........maybe I will just thin out my acrylics and start there….what do you think?

  • Linda Callaghan replied

yes KJ do that – do you know my Long Island one that was actually my first acrylic painting…but it looks like a watercolour….you can use acrylics like watercolours too..give them a go!!

  • Janis Zroback

    Janis Zroback

What I like most about this one is the development of contrasts that you show…. the darks are very dark and the lights are well..light…then your midtones shine in between…the painting glows with life….there is a lot of depth…you get the feeling that further on there is a world beyond what we see here…...
By just narely sketching in the trees in the distance, you are making suggestions and not telling us everything ….we don’t need to know everything…. this is splendid Linda…you are loosening up marvellously…well done…

  • Linda Callaghan replied

thanks so much Janis…glad you like it and I am ‘strolling’ down the right road (pardon the pun)....:-D putting on more paint has made a huge difference to the brightness of the painting which catches your attention more. I was hesitant to put the figure in …but glad I did now. Did not fuss too much either so it has a fresh feel to it. Thank you so much for your feedback and time Janis which is valued highly!!

I never expected that simple color and form can reach that level of “bang” in my mindset as I call it. It is the simplicity of the work not the complexity that amazes me.Only a real master can reach that level. That also shows how long a way I have to go to get to that level.

  • Linda Callaghan replied 8 days ago

what a lovely thing to say regarding my art …this was one of my early experiments of creating a painting from inside my mind and letting it flow through…I am sure you can also achieve this just have a go…..thank you so very much! :-)
