Garden of Eden, Kings Canyon, Australia

An acrylic 11” x 16” painting of an ancient Cycad (Macrozamia) set in the Garden of Eden at Kings Canyon located in the Northern Territory of Australia.

This Cycad is 400 years old and grows in a lush 270m chasm in a lost world of amazing rock formation which is all that remains of a vanished ecosystem. It is known as the Lost City contrived from bee hive domes of barnished red stone.

Some of the Cycads found here date back to the time of the dinosaurs.

It is extremely unusual… I’m really getting a lesson in Australian flora and fauna… thank you so much for the description that goes along with the painting…. brilliant work and I love the title…

    Fantastic landscape, Linda,
I have read that these cycads are among the oldest plants on earth. the New zealand tree ferns became a must have plant in the uk, a few years ago and now they all have license numbers to protect the wild plants !

  • Linda Callaghan replied

yes George some are as old as the dinosaur years….did not know about the N.Zealand ferns …very interesting. We also have the Wollemi Pines now another discovery of a tree that was around when the dinosaurs were roaming the earth. thank you so much George…....
