Seashell
This is an acrylic painting of a nutmeg seashell at dusk. This treasure of a shell is mainly found in tropical regions and vary in shape and size. Seashells have held a prominent place in our culture, they have been used as money, medicine, ornaments and objects of art.
These natural wonders which are strewn along the beaches like jewels from the sea, are created by snails, clams, scallops and other marine mollusks.
Seashells are wonders of the sea
Come let us look….take a walk with me
We will find the jewels, they are so grand
decorating the shores laying in the sand….

just beautiful….............
there is a time of year the shells wash up on shore…........mostly winter….......
summers hardly find shells on many beaches,,,,,,,,,,,,
Linda Callaghan replied
thanks so much KJ….I did not know that! I have quite a few shells that I have collected over the years and some beauties in my bathroom…plenty of beaches here in Aussie full of them :-D….
kjgordon
one more comment…..fantastic how the sun shines overe the mountain ..just a glaring hint.
Linda Callaghan replied
great I am glad that hint of light has not gone unnoticed …thanks KJ!
kjgordon
seems that in the summer the tide is mostly in…..sand and water covering the shore close to land…..
In the winter the tide is further out and more beach area exposed….......
shells are exposed more in winter months….......not on all beaches though….....
Linda Callaghan replied
learn something new every day hey KJ..thanks for that. I know these are called nutmeg shells due to their resemblence to nutmeg seeds not that I have seen a nutmeg seed :-D and are mostly found in the shallows of the water’s edge…
