A lovely place!! Nice to see…why is it called “New” England?
thanks so much Elizabeth! It’s neat that you ask! We Americans sometimes take it for granted that the whole world knows our history. When the pilgrims landed in the New World some of the first groups found what became the state of Massachusetts. The Plymouth Colony was the primary one, and most of the people were from England. The rolling hills and trees reminded them of the home they left behind so it became New England. If you check some of the names you will find towns and cities with the same or similar names. In Connecticut for example one of the major towns is New London! The tradition continued as the pioneers headed west. I have ancesters that landed in Salem, Massachusetts in the 1700’s as they moved west and had children the descendents ended up in northern Missouri in the 1800 and early 1900’s. I grew up near towns named New Salem, and New Boston. Now I, one of their descendents have settled back in Massachusetts, near the original Boston and Salem. Small world isn’t it! From Massachusetts to Missouri is approximately 1500 miles, not sure the exchange for kilometers.Thank you so much for stopping by, and asking! Take care, LindaAny other questions please ask!
