Church of the Spilled Blood St.Petersburg, Russia by

Pastel on black crinkled art paper.
After a wonderful cruise to the Baltic States, I could feel this building as a highly textured one. So out came the pastels and rough paper. It feels a little ‘un finished’ but that is deliberate, the building is very fussy and to ‘finish’ the pastel would i think make it loose it charm

Pastel on paper
50 × 20 cm approx

russia, st petersburg, church blood, pastel, architecture

Linda usually paints with acrylics, loves empty landscapes, seascapes and occasionally uses oils and inks and pastels. Some works are abstract and slightly ‘different’. Has sold work all over the world but paints mostly for the love of it! thanks for looking.

Love the charm of this. How ingenious of you to put it on the black, crinkled paper. It feels like we’re taking it in at night! Beautiful, Linda!

  • thank you frannie, we never managed to get there in darkness, as it didnt get dark until almost midnight!!!! i felt somehow it was appropriate, reminds me of the russian lacquered boxes with the folk scenes painted on top! x

Oh Ms Riddy! What a clever gal you are! Love that texture and the contrast of the building against the dark background.

Those Russian lacquered boxes! I love your dual inspiration.

  • tee hee… i was very naughty and brought three of them…. One has the painting of Klimpt’s ’the kiss;. one is a pencil drawing of a siberian tiger, and the last one has a shell lid painted with a snow scene…. i am so bad!!! :))
