“Dill Pickles”
oil on hardboard – still life food

I happened to buy a new jar of Dill pickles the other day and
when I got it out to have one with my burger, I thought they looked so yummy that I decided to do a painting .
Who doesn’t like a good dill pickle? I remember when my grandma made her own.

If you like the above painting…… It is in one of my books of 50 images titled: Art Journal of Daily Life – volume one available- just click here

WELCOME TO MY ART!
I have been a painter and sculptor for over 43 years professionally and after all this time, I still love it. It is challenging, makes me think about the world and keeps me connected to life.
My art is a mix of realism and impressionism with a bit of humor thrown in.
I am available for commission work- just ask!

Boy….you sure are making me REAL HUNGRY! How bout’ this….my aunt used to make these homemade pickles & she had the BEST tomatoes I’ve ever had in my whole life. She lived in Erwin, Tennessee. If you ever get a chance …go there to eat the tomatoes…They’ll be the best! It’s in the soil, honey!

You did a terrific job & this is an extremely unique still life…I have never seen this type of image before! Excellent artwork, my friend!

  • Hey, thanks for the great comments…….we ought to start a list of: “funny things about pickles”…My grandma made all hers (boy they were good!). Hmmmmmm…tomatoes…..I think I have a couple of paintings of those…..Ohio does pretty good with tomatoes too but I will definetly keep Tenns. in mind!..Nothing like a homegrown tomatoe, either!
    Glad you enjoyed this one.

    Very Realistic!

  • I go back & forth a lot between super realism into the impressionistic……..
The super realism is like studying to me…. trains my eye to see & control in color and design.
    THanks for your comments!

I never thought I’d see the day where I stare at a painting of a jar of pickles for ten minutes straight. I don’t know what about this has captured my eye, but I just love it.

  • This is fun!! Gives me a chuckle to think of you staring at the pickles!! :))))

I love the painting, brings back memories. Back in the fifties here in rural Missouri every general grocery still had these huge jars of dill pickles, $.05. When I looked at this I could taste them all over again.

  • Hee,hee……..boy are we dating ourselves!!! :))))))
Really fun to hear you enjoyed this one!

Next, Linda here’s a request for Aunt Janet’s Bread & Butter Pickles…are you game, honey? I sure would enjoy seeing them too! The Amish make a lovely jar of these at our local curb market. I’m waiting…….

I actually got a taste for a pickle now. Terrific painting, you really captured the essence and transmitted it. and that ain’t easy to do.

  • Ohhhhhhhhh, the “essence” of pickle!!! :D
