A Pounding

I had taken all the chances and read the thing
In a way that only I could
You said as much,
It was true.
How it made me feel,
But then I suspect I got it all wrong,
Now the rain will guide me with droplets
Pounding some sense into my infinite soul
I walked a hundred miles to get here
And now I feel
Like I need to walk a hundred more.
You taste like texture and your skin
Smells like dirt
Growing stuff that makes me hurt
I tried to use my rules that came back to
Me at midnight when you took my shoulders
And pulled me close and whispered like a fish
Bubbles pouring forth from your lips,
Lip service,
Clogging my arteries
Sending me over the edge to find
The structure for your forceful imagery
But I got stuck in simplicity
And I got a way with words myself,
So you detached from me quickly as I was
Going my own way
Using my own signs as progress.
You liked it, but you knew I wanted
You for more.
So you let me go out in the rain,
Soaking up the gray matter
That no longer matters
To hang myself down the way when the sun
Comes out,
I would be there for me.
