Emily.. One more time X 2 for Rhonda...GREAT IDEA RH HALL!!

RH HALL SAID THEY HAD AN EMILY DICKINSON READ FEST LAST NIGHT WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!
..I AM POSTING 2 MORE I DEEPLY RELATE TO.. PLEASE POST YOUR FAVORITE EMILY DICKINSON HERE….ALSO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO POST A PHOTO OR PAINTING WITH IT I THINK THAT WOULD BE WONDERFUL!

MY FIRST:

HEART, we will forget him!
You and I, to-night!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me,
That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you’re lagging,
I may remember him!

AND

I ENVY seas whereon he rides,
I envy spokes of wheels
Of chariots that him convey,
I envy speechless hills

That gaze upon his journey;
How easy all can see
What is forbidden utterly
As heaven, unto me!

I envy nests of sparrows
That dot his distant eaves, 10
The wealthy fly upon his pane,
The happy, happy leaves

That just abroad his window
Have summer’s leave to be,
The earrings of Pizarro 15
Could not obtain for me.

I envy light that wakes him,
And bells that boldly ring
To tell him it is noon abroad,—
Myself his noon could bring,

Yet interdict my blossom
And abrogate my bee,
Lest noon in everlasting night
Drop Gabriel and me.

If you were coming in the fall,
    I’d brush the summer by
With half a smile and half a spurn,
    as housewives do a fly.

If I could see you in a year,
I’d wind the months in balls,
And put them each in seperate drawers,
    Until their time befalls.

    If only centuries delayed,
I’d count them on my hand,
    subtracting till my fingers dropped
    Into Van Diemen’s land.

If certain, when this life was out,
That yours and mine should be,
I’d toss it yonder like a rind,
    And taste eternity.

But now, all ignorant of the length
    Of time’s uncertain wing,
It goads me, like the goblin bee,
That will not state it’s sting.

    I send Two Sunsets -
Day and I – in compitition ran -
I finished two – and several stars -
While He – was making one -

His own was ampler – but as I
Was saying to a friend -
Mine – is the more convenient
To Carry in the hand -

How lovely, Lina, your first choice above is also one of my very favorites! Thanks for thinking of me! xxxxxx

It’s really hard to select just one of her poems – lol – or one that goes with any photo I’ve ever taken but I’ll give it a shot – here’s the poem first – one of them at least:

YOU left me, sweet, two legacies,—
    A legacy of love
    A Heavenly Father would content,
    Had He the offer of;

You left me boundaries of pain 5
    Capacious as the sea,
    Between eternity and time,
    Your consciousness and me.

And perhaps this photo is closest to that –

  • lianne

    lianne

sorry – of course the 5 doesn’t belong there – lol.

  • linaji replied

GOOD LORD.. Lianne she is so wonderful.. I never saw this one:
You left me boundaries of pain
    Capacious as the sea,
    Between eternity and time,
    Your consciousness and me

  • linaji replied

This photo is perfect.. that single swan floating thu the pain…just wonderful darling one.

I couldn’t resist – I thought of another that would go with one of my pics…

Have you got a brook in your little heart,
    Where bashful flowers blow,
And blushing birds go down to drink,
    And shadows tremble so?

And nobody knows, so still it flows,
    That any brook is there;
And yet your little draught of life
    Is daily drunken there.

Then look out for the little brook in March,
    When the rivers overflow,
And the snows come hurrying from the hills,
    And the bridges often go.

And later, in August it may be,
    When the meadows parching lie,
Beware, lest this little brook of life
    Some burning noon go dry!

Lianne’s choice is beautiful, I have that one in a small chapbook of her collected works. And the photo reflects it wonderfully!

And Lina, I neglected to mention how beautiful your photo is and how well it demonstrates “Heart, we will forget him…” :-)

  • linaji replied

    Dear,, Dear… this photo and….

    That any brook is there;
And yet your little draught of life

I hide myself within my flower,
    That wearing on your breast,
You, unsuspecting, wear me too -
    And angels know the rest.

I hide myself within my flower,
    That, fading from your vase,
    You, unuspecting, feel for me
    Almost a loneliness.

  • linaji replied

    I NEVER saw a moor,
    I never saw the sea;
Yet know I how the heather looks,
And what a wave must be.
I never spoke with God, 5
    Nor visited in heaven;
Yet certain am I of the spot
As if the chart were given.

I cannot add a photo until I aget home later tonight but wanted to add this poem … my favorite.

Because I could not stop for Death –
He kindly stopped for me –
The Carriage held but just Ourselves –
    And Immortality.

We slowly drove – He knew no haste
    And I had put away
My labor and my leisure too,
    For His Civility –

We passed the School, where Children strove
At Recess – in the Ring –
We passed the Fields of Gazing Grain –
We passed the Setting Sun –

Or rather – He passed us –
The Dews drew quivering and chill –
For only Gossamer, my Gown –
My Tippet – only Tulle –

We paused before a House that seemed
A Swelling of the Ground –
The Roof was scarcely visible –
The Cornice – in the Ground –

Since then – ‘tis Centuries – and yet
    Feels shorter than the Day
I first surmised the Horses’ Heads
    Were toward Eternity –
