Coastal Mantra Series... Flying Meditation

Coastal Mantra Series- Flying Meditation has been nominated for the prestigious Pay it Forward Group by Kellie Cranmer of Kcranmer Art

Kellies quote to the group in submitting this image was:

”I chose this image because of the simple beauty it brings. Sometimes you can get the best impact by a bird flying…as nature would intend it to do…and Lina captured it so beautifully!! Also…Lina is one amazing soul. She is the type to care for others before herself (I feel that in her so much)...so it is my honor to nominate my friend Lina to the Pay it Forward…You deserve it girl and so much more!!! xoxoxoxox”

I am completely honored. I feel Kellie knows and understands how much Art has healed my life and continues to open up the creative connections that fill me up to the brim.

Thank you so much Kellie and to the Group Pay It Forward. I want you all to know how wonderful I feel today with such incredible news.

A Collaboration

FLYING MEDITATION
BY: Billy F. and Linaji
2009

Meditation,
A view in front of me
Consuming Me.
I am flying and in-between
There is my lofty view
And nothing else,
No Sound
No Breeze,
Not even a source of light
Every distraction vanishes
On these wooded hills,
Gone, subdued and shrouded
By the mists
By the tone
Monochrome, just
Positioning myself to the background
Where too,
No reference
No context
exists,
Just me,
Like a bird in flight
Negotiating nothing
Arriving no where,
Coming from
A notion called forever.
Art form
Formless
Faith.

This is what meditation is about, isn’t it? I hit the big view and had this picture in front of me for what seemed like ages with nothing else around it to distract… just as you seem to have done when you squeezed the shutter on this. There is this lofting pelican in flight, and nothing else. No sound, no breeze… not even source of light. Every distraction, including the wooded hills are subdued and shrouded by silent mist.

It kind of blows me away that you can evoke such focus through such a simple shot with so few elements, and I think it works so well beause of two main things… your narrow tonal range (it’s virtually monochrome), and the position of the bird in relation to the background. Remove the background and there is no reference, no context. Just a bird in flight. But you have him with his wings down, like he’s in touch with the earth, but just elevated above it to find a moment of peace and focus.

It’s not really like me to stare so long at a picture of a bird in flight. But there is something about this that gives me a feeling of peace and I’m just trying to figure out what it is, and it so happens I’ve got a keboard in front of me as I’m thinkin’ on it… so you’ve got the benefit of hearing me think out loud. Don’t know if I’ve got it yet, but your picture made me ponder deeply and for me, that means it’s amazing art. Think I’ll just slip this in my favs so I can get back to it and try to get to the bottom of why I like it so much.

Phoque the seals, I think the bird’s just stole the show!!

  • linaji replied

Ha.. you forgot.. I bet you forgot what an incredible comment you left me.. and it is only because as with so much of my work in the last few months since I met you, I have launched an amazing body of work off my adoration for you and your mind, heart and soul. The poem of course was made solely from the inspired vision you allowed me to see..

There is not much to add as it seems you are there with me as I shoot. What an amazing time I would have shooting with you on any given day. Me buzzing click click click and you doing all the perfect set up work.. finding a most perfect shot.. me.. buzzin round you keeping you company while your mind consumes your eyes.. and you do see.. you do see.. I feel I feel.. maybe someday we can see and feel together.. one shot.. one shot.. xox

Isn’t Billy such an amazing person?? And I know what you mean as far as not being able to be present long enough to comment…but hey we all have lives…and we all understand completely. It’s those moments we have…to dedicate our own words, perspective and love for anothers art…that really makes that wait worth it.

As far as this image…I don’t have enough words to express how beautiful it is. It makes me feel at peace…and comfort in this busy over-rated world we live in. And helps me remember the more simple things in life…and the beauty that we can often take for granted…and how small we really are…compared to the never ending life that really makes this world what it is.

So with that…exceptional work to both of you!!! xoxoxoxo

  • linaji replied

Yes.. like you he inspires the heck outta me Kellie.. gracious and kind. I would love this even more.. You, Billy, me.. out and about in some amazing place to shoot.. not only the scenes.. but da shit!! lolo.. He talks about you often and so I had a little bit to go on in my poem. I did not yet comment on the elk shot.. but isn’t that amazing.. that he takes that time to really SEE???!!!
I can say this.. I am not proficient enough in Photography and the terms to really present a comment of his caliber. But I have slowed down on my comments to focus on what it is I like about the shot or the art and try to convey that in words..

For me it is easier to let the artist know how much I am feeling and enjoying their work by writing verse. it is more feeling than the mind for me.. I am out too far right to do well with any left brain logic!

But the amazing thing about him is.. he has it all Right and Left brain logic.. as I feel you do too.
So now this is about Us.. you and he and me.. .. and I am so pleased.. I never thought I would be surrounded by such deep seeded artistic Creators.. Muwah!! xox

  • KcranmerArt

    KcranmerArt

I love everything you said here Lina…but I must correct you…I don’t have the left/right brain logic. I am but a leaf floating in the wind…waiting to see where it will take me next. I have had the beautiful opportunity to visually see and comment on so many wonderful works…as art and photography is really a way to see in another’s soul. I also try to spend time focusing on a piece, and comment what I really feel in my heart. I personally don’t feel anyone deserves a superficial comment…I think they are all deserving of dedicated respect of what they saw and created at that very moment…as you and Billy do as well!! I think that is the best reward…and I thank you both for that!!! xoxoxxoo

What is it that makes this work so well?Does a pelican wonder why?...I dunno Linaji because I am in the pelican mantra where you put me with this, and this only consciousness is of flappin’ and flyin’...the amazing tonal and elemental image, and your supremely mantral verse…and just breathin’...flappin’ and flyin’...
