Thanks Mr fury – rapid – that’s another for my global vocab :) I don’t have too much like this as it takes a little thought and I have been working full time for 5 years… so don’t get a chance to think things through too much… or to paint them… ho hum!... there’s some killer ideas in store for the future though… can’t wait to give them life.

I wonder how you start these kind of images. So much to see and it is all worked out so well.
Just noticed the slightly different part in the form around the centre, could you tell me why you did this? Is it about balance?

that’s just about me wanting to have the uroborus in there… it was important to me at the time for representing the infinate cycle of life – this figure meditates and is at one with the cycle and free from the cycle all at once. or something. this is the principle archetypal energy as the heirophant. i won’t go into it now, but i really relate the snake with this 5th element of the archytipal stages of the development of spirit. the heirophant card used to be depicted traditionally with one man kneeling head to the ground (following dogma on his spiritual quest) and one kneeing straight (on his own spiritual path – regardless of the dogmas in society) I was trying to depict a modern day version…. (isn’t it hard to seriously follow any dogma strictly now?)... instinct / life force has a strong pull on our spiritual beliefs. listening to that gut flow can help us to learn and to aid others to learn, which is what the holy man (what the greek heirophant means in english) is all about to me! to me (i have special reasons for this), the holy man’s like minded energy is temperance….. don’t know why I’m saying that – suppose i explain the title. The snake of life was really important in this – hence the temple and the uroborus…. and the imbalance of the symmetry in the portion that is the world (with the lillies on the water) is important as the illusion of life seems very asymmetrical when in reality, if you are blessed at any point to see from a psychedelic vantage point, is actually very ordered and symmetrical…. full of obvious mathematically perfect law

Started as a b/w doodle of traditional heirophant card set up – one man kneels down and one up – i changed it , mixed it up with some ideas from some of my standard pattern doodles, et voila….

glad you are interesed… hope my little ramble here helps….

liesbeth – thanks. i’m glad to know the explanation helps. these justifications crop up as i go along, inspiring me to finish the works… i don’t know what truly comes first with me – the art or the “ideas” – but is all one big moulded togetherness in my head! it’s nice as they develop to see which story is being told. I will try and load up the original temple doodle+pattern doodles that were used as my preliminary studies to this one…. i just try to remain as true to the spirit of life as i can.

beautifully thoughtful piece - I believe I considered temperance once - but it was no where near such a developed thought – mine more sort “hmmm?? nah!”
I like this picture a lot.
