Bugger The Sadness

I got tired of my sadness today…
So I chased it round the garden
pouncing on it
when I thought it looked puffed out.
“Bugger You, Sadness”,
I said to it
as it heaved and bucked beneath me.

It bit my hand.
I bit it back.

I had a lead box built for this occasion
smooth on the inside in case my sadness tried to escape
and ornate on the outside
because I like pretty things.

I squished the rogue down into the box.
That’s never an easy thing to do…
It’s all arms and legs.
It fought and fought
till I shut the lid and sat upon it
almost retching with the effort.

When I felt it’s cold hand around my ankle,
I knew I’d shut the lid on it’s forearm.
My sadness sobbed it’s thanks
when I poked it’s arm back inside..

There.
Mission accomplished.
My sadness locked up
postmarked for some far away place.

If you feel sorry for my sadness,
Please don’t.
It’s had a good run.. a long life.

And if you feel as though I am lesser of a person,
or weak
or hollowed somehow….
Please don’t.
I have my hands full here.

I’ve already told Lady Misery
that she’s next to be evicted.

I’ll wrestle with my anger..
I’ll try to starve my hate…

but I will spoon feed my heart.
Just watch me!

I’ll nurture my soul
with hot soup and ART,
I’ll endeavour to harness my ego as gently as possible
then strengthen my will with sit-ups
chin-ups
& crunches.

I will humour
my libido
because it’s funny…

I will try to remember my sadness…
all the good times,
all the bad
& I’ll try not to miss it
or cry…

Besides,
why should I cry anymore??
When Lady Misery
does a fine job on the emotional front line
with little
or no
assistance
from me.

    Limerick, you are the BEST!!
I love this sooooo much. It’s got loads of brilliant lines and had me nearly wetting myself in a couple of places! You know when you get really hysterical and people look at you like you’re insane?! (My girls) .
I’m so glad I added you to my watchlist!

  • I am so glad you did too. Your comments uplift me. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
Ummm.. which lines were funny? It is a REALLY earnest poem. ;)

This is brilliant… life would be awesome if the negative stuff was physically there to be grabbed, slapped down with a wet mop, held in a half nelson until it cried and then locked in the shed without supper. Ever.
You make sure you keep them evicted L and keep a beady eye on that Regret… it’s a stealthy wee bugger!

  • You have a fabulous mind and great turn of phrase. :) I value you so much. XX oh and your feckin’ funny. ;)

Sorry! I know it is, but you must admit, the chasing and squishing bits are hysterical! Especially the bit that goes; ‘my sadness sobbed its thanks, when I poked its arm back inside’.
I do appreciate the seriousness of it too, but thats why it’s so great, because it’s both at the same time!
Hope you are not offended that I thought it funny? Perhaps I have a strange sense of humour!! xx

  • Sweetheart.. I was playing with you. ;) The only thing earnest about it is the place whence it came. The rest is fun code – for the truth. XXX Sorry to make you sorry. XXXXX
