For SoJie14, translated from Diane Johnson-Mosley’s “Otherworld Botany”*
Selected for showing at CORPUS ILLUMINATA II, Detroit, Michigan, 2012
This is my homage to my passion for anatomical art, the human body, birth, fragility of life, children, and the invisible web that connects us all. I need a better picture and possibly a bit of tweaking, but other than that, this is finished!
Soft Pastels with highlights in coloured pencils and white charcol; mi teintes Canson charcol paper, 19"by25"
EDIT as of October 9th 2011: Added violet to the backround, sharpened the muscles, and brought out a bit of contrast; re-photographed in natural light, 6pm (October 8th) :) Sharpened image on computer because it was a little hazy. Blue was already there but didn’t get captured in the first set of pictures.
The anatomy bits I used to replace Diane’s lovely florals are:
Iris with Pupil, Corneoscleral Junction, and Bulbar conjunctiva
Ovary and Fimbriae
Bronchioles (from The Bronchial Tree)
Fetus and Umbilical Cord
Neurons and connectors
Nerves and Veins (various)
