This is for a writing challenge; the original poem format is in my writing portfolio. I would appreciate any comments or ideas left there, not here! ;) Thank you! – Lily

The Human Condition
You think this world’s hard, well darlings, you have no idea
The war zones the crime zones the homeless grime zones
You have no idea.
Walking the streets at night for cash
You have no idea.
Abandoned babies in the trash
You have no idea.
No shoes to wear
No love to share
No friendship to find anywhere
You have no idea.
The broken needles in the streets
You have no idea.
Down-town cops out on the beat
You have no idea.
Widows yearning
Storms churning
Children learning
Of bombs burning
You have no idea.
A woman bruised and battered, breaking
You have no idea
But if you do, old wounds are waking
And you have no idea.
Empty stomachs wanting bread
You have no idea.
Empty veins want to be fed –
You have no idea!
A truth to tell; no one to hear;
A world we all have learned to fear;
A nigger, towel-head, kike, or queer –
You have no idea.
An airplane crashes in the sea
You have no idea.
An armed and fatal robbery
You have no idea.
No way to see
Through smog and smoke
No way to breathe
Those black lungs choke and
You have no idea.
Does God exist and if he does
Why can’t he make the best of us?
Why can’t the world just learn to trust
As its axis turns on dust –
We have no idea.

Wow you really show all the hatred in the world with this. It is absolutely brilliant – we have no idea. This is so true, even ones that have ‘ideas’ do nothing about it. Hatred is easily spread, influencing death and famine once more. We do not know what it is like to stave or anything. I love the picture as well, shows the condition as fragile and the splatters connote blood but are black, show our disillusionment. Utterly inspiring and fantastic piece of writing.

  • Thank you! Your comment touches me; I’m very glad you were moved by this piece. It definately came straight from my heart and on “straw that broke the camel’s back” sort of day. I am sick of people complaining about everything, and it was one complaint too many that inspired this, along with a long-time love of this world and everyone in it. Your comment means a lot to me.
    xoxo
