Artist's Description

The Grand Hotel Scarborourgh overlooks the towns South Bay . A grade 11 listed building it has undergone a £7 million refurbishment.The hotel designed by the Hull architect Cuthbert Broderick and when completed in 1867 was one of the largest in the world as well as one of the first giant purpose built hotels in Europe. The building was designed around the theme of time. 4 Towers represent the seasons,12 floors for the months of the year , 52 chimneys symbolise the weeks and originally there was 365 bedrooms one for each day of the year . The hotel itself is built in the shape of a V in honour of Queen Victoria.The hotel was badly damaged when the german navy bombarded the town in 1914. Lumix DMC-FZ48
