View of the River Rhine. by Lilian Marshall

The view across the River Rhine after climbing the 533 steps that go up to the top of one of the 2 huge steeples of the Cologne Cathedral .Climbing up the narrow stone staircase at the same time that people were coming down was a bit hazardous at times but I never left the side holding on to the rail all the time. I took my time and was rewarded with fantastic views such as this . Two thirds of the way up is the Belfry and the only decent place to have a rest before continuing up to the top.The bell room holds several bells of various sizes including the St . Peters bell which is the largest free swinging bell in the world.Lumix DMC-TZ6

progressed from holiday snaps to being serious about it just 3 years ago.I keep a compact camera in my handbag at all times .It is more convenient, an SLR is to heavy and complicated for me. I just like to point and shoot. I do enhance my images slightly with pseudo HDR on a single image. Now I have a hobby and a passion.

In the sky, there is no distinction of east and west; people create distinctions out of their own minds and then believe them to be true.

Stunning view and capture Lilian, and very well done you for climbing all those steps, I would have only made the first 33, never mind the 500, Honestly in this day and age you would think they would put a lift in wouldn’t you LOL

  • Thank you very much Peter for adding this to your favs. I read that on a guided tour you went higher up in a lift but I went up as far as you could go and I couldn’t see that you could go any further. I definately couldn’t see where a lift could be unless it was in the other tower.Worth the climb. I did think it would be horrendous if some one took ill up there as the staircase is so narrow.
