Weeping willow
This is a true story and tribute to a wonderful childhood friend. The Weeping Willow tree referred to in the poem was found and planted by me when I was about 4 years old (with help from my dad) in front of the house where I grew up and lived up to the age of 12. It was cut down when I was about 10 years old. For some reason it came up today in conversation with my mum, and she reminded me of how hard I took it (I cried for days) when that beautiful tree was taken away. It brought back lots of memories and from my heart I felt I had to write this…..
Weeping willow belongs to the following groups:
All Out Emotion, All Things Poetic, Artistic, Philosophical, Freedom to Shine, Something To Say and Two Beings GroupDear childhood friend…..
Merely a twig when I found you
Sad, weak and fragile…....
Seemed as if only I could see
Your beauty and strength….
Tenderly I cared for you
And watched you grow
Into a wondrous majestic being….
In your strong arms
You would lift me up and away
From a less than warm and happy place
And take me towards the clouds…
There in my imagination I would
Embark on wonderful adventures
Where with magical powers
I could do amazing things
And be strong like you…..
You would listen to my secrets and dreams
Feel my tears upon your leaves
And the warmth of my skinny arms
Lovingly embracing you…..
In your company I would always find
Peace, happiness and protection
And I loved you so very much….
Until one day it was decided
You were in the way and had to go
For you had grown too big you see…..
Deeply I could feel your sadness and fear
And uselessly cried and pleaded for you
My wonderful special friend…...
But no one could understand
What mere words could not tell
And one cold sunny morning
Without a second thought
You were taken away forever….
Along with a piece of a child’s heart….

I had a tree that was a big part of life for me as a child and it was removed many years later. I remember feeling the same way.
great writing!

Wonderfully touching true tale, of your real life memories of this tree, this friend, that grew with you during those tender years, but that was lost. I love how poetry can tell these stories so beautifully, in such a readable way. Love work Liliana, you inspire me once more.
