Shining Through by Kim Moulder

One of my first paintings in this series of trees. The image comes from a wooded area in my parent’s yard and the light was ‘shining through’ in the most beautiful way. It reminds me of the way that we as artists and just as human beings have those moments where that warm light just shines from within and through to the world around us. The trees bend to let the light shine through.

A watercolor in greens and blues with light within.
When I look at this image, it warms me.

I paint the energy of what I see, but the particular combination of color and shape in my paintings are a function of the process as well as the inspiration. This intensity is achieved by layering and glazing of staining pigments.

Much of my watercolor works use the tree as it’s subject. Even though a tree stays rooted in the ground, it is ever-changing in it’s color, texture and mood. Everywhere I turn, I am composing.
