2010

Posted 2 days ago

And so, a new decade starts.

Still people war with each other.
Still stupidity rules as government.
Still children go hungry.
Still, 1500 children die every hour.

What glorious futures were envisaged by the great science fiction writers? Wonderful transports to alien frontiers, technological delights to clean and entertain us.

Yet every day we come closer to the sort of future offe…

Holy Jesus - It's Christmas and All the Non-Christians have something to celebrate!

Posted 9 days ago

So most Christians will be celebrating the birth of Christ. Given.

But most non-Christians have something important to celebrate too!

Imagine someone who tells people to love one another, to turn the other cheek, to put others first and to reject materialism.

Imagine someone who spends much of their life healing others – for no charge. Who was often attacked but never retaliated. Wh…

The Queens Christmas Message

Posted 9 days ago

1. I am not a queen in any sense of the word, ducky.
2. Merry Christmas
3. Stop hating each other, try being friends – it’s actually easier
4. Eat less of the things that walk, fly, swim or wiggle.
5. Don’t get too drunk.
6. If anyone knows what ‘too drunk’ means, please tell me.
7. In the time it took you to read this, at least one child has died from hunger.
8. What sort of 21st centur…

If you dont like censorship of Redbubble then READ THIS NOW

Posted 17 days ago

Stephen Conroy has just announced his Government will censor all internet traffic with a mandatory ISP-level filter.

Over 120,000 Australians have taken a stand against his flawed scheme that will do little more than divert funds away from where they’re needed most, and now he plans to bring legislation before Parliament next year. “Can you send him an email or fax letting him know your rea…

Despair is not the opposite to Hope

Posted 27 days ago

I’m looking for a word that is the opposite of hope,
and all my searching leads to despair.
The word and the feeling.

Because despair is not the opposite of hope.

Despair is the result on unattained hopes.

There is a condition that I can only describe is ‘just being without hope, without despair’ which is like being dead. That is the word I search for. Though I don’t know what it i…

Art and the Ego

Posted about 1 month ago

It has been said that Artists are ego-trippers, those obsessed with their own ego.
And that they are self-indulgent. And that they delight in the limelight. The applause.

No.

The Artist loses themselves in their art.
The ego is one of the payments.
The self is unimportant.

It is not the attention but the expression.

To express. To be in terms of whatever the Art requires of yo…

Art must be paid for.

Posted about 1 month ago

Art, true Art, must be paid for. By the artist. Usually in blood.

Art – whether that is a painting, a photograph, a dance, a piece of music, some writing or a cake – does not just plonk itself upon the floor shouting out ‘here I am!’.

It is something born of the artist through intense emotional experience. Art is not something that comes from nowhere, it is the very manifestation of wh…

Things that keep me going despite the all too many failures

Posted about 1 month ago

-----------------
I’m sorry Mr. Kipling, but you just don’t know how to use the English language.

These were the words used by one of the editors of the San Francisco Examiner newspaper when rejecting one of Mr. Kipling’s short stories. Mr. Kipling is now a revered author and the San Francisco Examiner is….

Anyone got recommendations for printing a book?

Posted about 1 month ago

I’ve tried Lulu but their photobooks are far too limited.

Blurb was working fine but I cannot get the upload to succeed. Support have proved unhelpful so I have given up (after the 18th attempt to upload failed in yet a different place)

Momento are fantastic but too costly.

There must be others – has anyone had any experiences? Any recommendations?
