Ok, so you submitted a piece of work to the Digital Interface group but it got rejected.
1. Do not despair.
2. Do not feel hurt.
3. Read the Guidelines and the chances are you’ll see the reason for the rejection.
Especially note:
In this group we do not reject because we don’t like your art.
We do not reject because you are not using a particular piece of software.
The most common reason for rejection is that there is no creation information specified in the description, or it just says “sharpened in photoshop” etc. Read the guidelines or check out the descriptions of artwork in this group that has NOT been rejected.
Sometimes we will reject is images are too similar, or if you submit too many at once.
If in doubt, please feel free to email the Group Leaders and we will do our best to help.

how much of a description is needed?
quite often works of mine are rejected that do have descriptions on how I’ve created them.
My descriptions arent overly detailed, because I believe we as artists retain the right to have a little mystery to our work… I dont expect to see a description of a painting that goes “i painted left, then right, changed brushes…” etc, you get my point yea?
So, if your group really only accepts detailed descriptions, then perhaps you should reword your intro page?
on your rules you state-
1. Only post images here that have been significantly modified (or created!) in a software product For example Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop, ArcSoft etc…… Just changing the contrast, cropping and so on, without changing the nature or subject of the image is not enough. You must have created something new. An example of this would be composites of different images or collages, or complex filters.
2. Document the creation process in the description. You don’t have to go into the n-th detail, but just ‘I created it in photoshop’ is hardly going to pass the acceptance test
now my descrioptions are more than ‘created in photoshop’ yet still get rejected?
Usually this thing doesnt really bother me, but as I said earlier, quite alot of my works are being rejected by your group, and I dont submit to it that often and in the future I probably wont bother. (that is not a childish statement on my behalf, just a fact, am too tired to reword things to make it sound all nice)
If your group is finding itself having to reject alot of work because the descriptions are not detailed enough to your taste, then , just for the sake of proffessionalism, I strongly suggest you reword your group submission rules.
you mite see a pleasant difference in the amount of submissions and result in you having more time to yourself!
anyway
all the best
hope your group goes well for you!
cheers.

now you’ve gone and featured one of my accepted works and i feel all bad about whinging before lol….
i still think altering the rule wording mite help…
plus i am little confused, as my accepted works description is only a few more words than the ones denied…
feel free to delete these comments too, i wont be offended :)
oh, here is a thought, sometimes the work details are further down the page, after a description of what the picture is of or a poem, and you cannot read it until a few comments are made on the pic and the page lengthens…
a bug that RB probably needs to get onto, and not your area, but, just a thought that if people get cut at your group and claim they have included a description, maybe that is whats happening…..
Anyway, that is the only grief I have with your group, the wording of the rules…
Apart from that its all good…
cheers.

dimarie, voicing your opinion is not winging :)
In terms of the rejections I can only really comment on those I do myself. Even in terms of the content of the description, it can sometimes be a little subjective. Sometimes I have accepted works where the description really wasnt good enough – because I read more in due to my experience, or I was overrun with other (private) issues etc….
I’d really like the option when rejecting work to be able to type in a line of text. I have raised the idea with rb but no joy (yet). Essentially I could then say exactly whey a piece of art got rejected and (hopefully) ensure that it comes back and is accepted. Still waiting for that though…..
Sometimes I will bm the person submitting the art and try to encourage a better description. Unfortunately, I mostly dont get time to do that though.
Putting the creation info in a comment would be ok with me, but as you say it can drop below the screen bottom, and mostly we check the description rather than read thru all the comments.
One thing I dont want is a blow by blow description. I believe in sharing of knowledge and experience but not giving away of an individuals creativity.
I always point people to AlienVisitors works in terms of the ideal practice.
Almost all the work rejected I would like to have in. Which is why I hoped this thread might help people a little more. One suggestion I have is that when they do get a rejection, BM me and I’ll try to explain if I can.
I have had my own share of rejections (and not always much explanation) so I understand the frustration. And i have pulled out of groups because of it. Like you, its not a tantrum but just the inability to spend time submitting works when they just get rejected. But I am happy to try to work with anyone in getting an image past the requirements. If that helps :)

Thanx for replying!
I really appreciate it!
I’ll send you a bm, as to not clog up this page anymore :)

i would like to know what needs to be done with this or how it is not suited for your group?
” :http://www.redbubble.com/people/ciasart/art/1249368-1-by-fire-or-sword was not accepted into the The Digital Interface group about 2 hours ago. The reason was: “We think it isn’t in line with one or more of the group guidelines. If you’re able to make changes to your work so it meets these guidelines, we’ll be happy for you to resubmit the work for consideration.”
Group submission not accepted
“
i would appreciate any comments or critiques
i submitted it because i thought that it did meet the requirements:
A group aimed at the exploration of the symbiosis of real and digital imagery. This group is aimed at those who wish to enhance or add to their art using Photoshop, Paintshop Pro and various other photographic software products.
please let me know how i can improve or make this an acceptable image
thank you
Jennifer

as it says in the above description for this journal entry, and as it says in the guidelines….
The most common reason for rejection is that there is no creation information specified in the description, or it just says “sharpened in photoshop” etc. Read the guidelines or check out the descriptions of artwork in this group that has NOT been rejected.
I have checked your description :
“This was a wonderful shot of a sunrise that Richard took up the coast last week…
while we were looking over the photos we got this great idea to do a collaboration and try to add something to the image and see how it would turn out
A volcano seem to match the coloring of the shot
and away I went….
I love digital painting, but this was a challenge as well since we wanted it to look as real and part of the original photo as possible
But in the end, I was happy with the result
I had posted it here with no description originally in order to test how well I had added my painting…
my apologies to those who commented and thought it was a photo…
and yet Thanks to you as well… I was thrilled to know that I had advanced just enough to pull off a little manip realistically!
thanks again for all the comments…”
and it seems obvious that this is the reason for the rejection.
Specifically, number 2
2. It is expected that you include with your image a brief description of the software and the technique used to create the image. That helps others understand the effort you have put in and also will breed even more creativity.

as much as i would love to be able to give a step by step of what i did… i feel that if i did it reveals too much of how i did this piece…
perhaps i will make something with this group in mind in the future, and keep notes of how i came up with my results…
in all honestly… aside from painting a black island…adding some lava colors and smudging them….and adding a gradient behind, setting the top layer to multiply and play with the curves,.... i am not sure there is anything else that i did…. perhaps played up contrast….
but adding that to the description makes the pic less magical… so like i said, i think i will make something in the future that is specifically meant for this group….
thank you for you r help and suggestions

giving away the process can be challenging. I don’t blame anyone for that :) Sometimes the creation process is too personal, other times it’s just too complex. I’ve started trying to record in my original file names some of the steps involved but even so it is not always easy.
the major aim of this group is to allow us to share process as artists – to learn from each other, which is why we do have such a strict requirement. On the other hand, we are totally non-judgemental about the results themselves per se. Even with rejected works, I often find myself leafing (!) through the artists portfolio, commenting on the rejected piece (and others) because of the great artwork.
this is, perhaps, a group where a small and select number of items go as a sort of tithe payment to the art community in terms of shared training and experience. That’s probably how it should be phrased. I might rework the description etc… to try to emphasize that more. Many thanks for your time CiasArt, your contribution (in discussion if not image at this time) is well appreciated.

Well – it must be the ‘offensive’ bit that caused the rejection. If using genitalia in montage is offensive, i guess that’s fair – comes down to definitions, as always. I would call my picture confronting, but i don’t consider it offensive.

It’s hard for me to comment – I didn’t do this particular rejection. What was the picture?
Scott Ruhs, 11 days ago
Yes, I just had one rejected that to my mind follows all of the guidelines. There is a description of what was done, the difference from the original is significant, the software used was mentioned and no others had been recently submitted.
While it’s nice to be able to have an image displayed in the various groups for more exposure, please remember that when it comes down to it we want to sell our work, and descriptions of how the work is done is not the way to do that. Since it is a requirement for this group I tend to include this information at the end. Potential buyers are not looking for this information. Perhaps it would be better if a journal entry with this information was created or even better a posting in the forum instead of putting it where potential buyers would see it.
Lightsmith, I feel that you judge the images fairly, but most times the ones that I submit and are rejected have been reviewed by your co-host (no grudges here, just stating fact based on my experience), so it seems that the two of you view the criteria differently. As suggested above, perhaps the guidelines need to be clarified further.
Thanks for moderating this group, I know it is a lot of work, and I do appreciate your efforts.

A picture that took half an hour to create is accepted; one that took two hours is rejected apparently because I didn’t put all the details. Details have been added as far as I can remember them. Goodbye.
