What to load on new photography netbook toy?

As you may have read from my previous journal I have just bought a new netbook and am sorting out what software to put on it to help me out – in the field and back at the hotel/campsite.

What programs do others find useful?
File converter and viewer and basic manipulation – couple of options already sorted – XnView or IrfanView.
The Photographers Ephemeris – where is the sun and moon? – sorted.

Depth of field and hyperfocal distance calculators – which free downloads do people find easiest to use and understand? I have 1 but I think there might be something better out there.

What other programs do people find can be handy?

    Hi Garth

I’m same as you mate – I travel around a bit and carry a netbook with me. Basically I content myself with Irfan although I have loaded CS3 into this new one. I also carry a couple of flash drives with me and usually copy all my photos on to those every evening as well. Nothing like making sure! LOL I don’t use any of the other programmes you mention while I’m away. I did have Picasa on my laptop but so far not on the netbook.
    regards

  • Hi Peter, thanks for that. I also bought a portable hard drive to go with the netbook – and a mouse and a portable dvd player as well.

Yes, I got a portable DVD player for the netbook – but a wireless mouse sounds like a good idea – I am not overly keen on those highly sensitive touch pads!

    Hi Garth.
For basic adjustments/File Conversion/Viewer, I think Picasa3 takes some beating and it’s free.

    Hope this helps.

  • Thank you Country Pursuits, I’ll have a look.

    PS.
Have a look at Photofiltre, another free download.
