Time smooths all wounds
In photography as in life its amazing how a little time can soften blows. Here a pounding swell is softened against the rocks with a 30 second time exposure . The colours remain but the sharpness is gone from the water detail.
The shadows are a distraction but I love the colours and their contrast with each other. Not a bad practice shot for a semi-new type of photography for me. My first shot with the new “black glass” filter.
My favourite photographic spot again.

Travis Easton
superb Garth, go the black glass
Garth Smith replied
Thank you Travis, yes , lets see what this baby can do. Wonder what happens if I put my 110 &106 & 205 on. 19 Fstops on the top half and 16 on the bottom half.
Now all I have to do is find an application where that may be useful and give a result that cant be achieved in other ways?! Stumped at this stage.

Got a vari ND the other day 2-8 stops but haven’t had the opportunity to use it yet, 19 stops??? :-)
Garth Smith replied
Now I am envious, perfect for dawn and dusk light methinks.
19 stops = 3 filters (edit that to 18 stops)
B&W 110ND = 10 stops
B&W 106ND = 6 stops
B&W 502ND = 2 stops soft graduated (all this time I thought it was a 3 stop grad)
so with these 3 stacked it gives me 10 + 6 + 2 f/stops in the top half and 10 + 6 + clear in the bottom half of the field of view.
Like I said – no idea on what it could be useful for though except maybe to get a narrower field of view in extreme light situations.

Super shot mate, i was down here the other day for a walk without any gear with me. I reckon there is a thousand different compositions to be had down along these cliffs Garth, all the way from Kings rocks through to Half Moon Bay!
Really dig the orange lichen and blue sky playoff here mate, nice choice of exposure time too!
Garth Smith replied 12 days ago
Thank you Adam. I agree wholeheartedly. So many shots in that stretch its unbelievable. And then when you throw in different tides and different light – its a neverending journey.
