Dennis Gay
Hola GARTH!
Yes, spectacular is a good adjective to describe this one.
Terrific composition, light, focus and depth of field.
Unfortunately those over sharpening artifacts are across the skyline again. I’m not trying to be smart but it may pay for you to not sharpen the skyline or any distant object. That f/22 depth of field will keep those areas well within what is called “acceptable focus” as long as your point of focus is chosen carefully or you use the Hypefocal Distance. (Justathort).
The colours are so rich and the shapes and textures so interesting.
All in all a remarkable viewing experience of a place I would really like to visit.

Dennis
Garth Smith replied
Thanks Dennis, what you say is true in the perfect world. But shooting at the shoreline in salt spray conditions with swirling 25 knot winds slightly into the sun makes it very hard to have a pin sharp image. I shoot in those conditions a lot. Its very hard to keep the front filter spotless and scratchfree. There is also edge blur and chromatic abheration to contend. And the fact that I am only working with a 5.5 megapixel camera and the image has to be enlarged to go to larger than “small” on redbubble. Anything to sharpen the pic up to an acceptable size is a bonus at this stage. I have blown pics up to 30×20 inch printouts and the “artifacts” you are talking about weren’t evident.
But thank you for your comments Dennis, still much appreciated.
shellJ
This pic is truely inspirational garth….luv it !!
Garth Smith replied
Thank you very much Shelley, we’ll have to go there. Dave loved it!
betty porteus
Garth – there is a story about my father sinking his fishing dingy off Mt Cameron during stormy weather. On a clear day it looks idyllic.
Garth Smith replied
Yes its not a very nice place to be in a dinghy in a storm, would be terrifying actually.
betty porteus
he went down under his nets – freed himself but got badly battered – family watching from the beach dropped rope down a cliff and hauled him in – he did not move much for a day or so.
His accidents were legendary – risk taking family.
Rod Mueller
Awesome capture.Nice lead in and beatifully captured with a captivating foreground.Cant see any artifacts.
Garth Smith replied
Thank you again Rod. It was a magic morning.
Jan Timmons
What a gorgeous scene and shot, Garth. I see no artifacts, and I’m on a brand new large monitor – without any food specs on it – that used to expand your shot. Perhaps someone needs to clean food and dust artifacts off his monitor. Beautiful work!
Garth Smith replied
Glad you like it Jan. Its one of my faves.
