Before the Sun

Before the Sun

A recent trip to a local high vantage point over Stanley in NW Tasmania with Murph before sunup revealed this vista.
It was dark and very windy when we arrived so we huddled beside a hawthorn hedge and waited for the show to start.

Wow .. what a stunner. Sixty seven seconds .. interesting.

  • Garth Smith replied

Thanks Michael, Yeh, its called hit and miss photography. My camera doesnt keep count for me on bulb like the Canons do, I don’t have a watch and I dont have a light meter. So I look at the blackblue/pink sky, try to guess the exposure then press the button and try to guess how long the shutter has been open.
I was aiming for about a minute but went a bit over.

I’m impressed. Quite a few of my best shots come about from “mistakes”. It’s probably life’s way of telling me not to think too much !

  • Garth Smith replied

A bit like darts maybe LOL – the first 2 shots are “sighters”, and I bracket anyway so its no problem if the first shot is too light or too dark.
All I have lost is time!! And on a sunrise shoot it seems to go so quickly.
